It's my opinion that the current chatter about Synology's recent policy change is a bit hysterical. I own two Syno NAS and I have no intention of abandoning the company anytime soon. That said, I recently replaced a DS218+ which had been my primary media server for years in favour of an GMKtec G3 Pr

No remorse so far with DXP4800+ (2024 kickstarter $420) coming from coming Synology DS107e (2007 $200), DS410 (2011 $500), DS218+ (2019 $250). Synology was getting too expensive and not enough HW for their pricing.

I couldn't be happier with Synology. My DS218+ is a perfect Plex server and personal cloud. It has been running for over 5 years with the same drives and has given me absolutely 0 issues. Sometimes I forget it's there as it is very compact too. The SO is amazing and it's very easy to clean and maint

I had a DS218+ until a few weeks ago, I have now upgraded to a DS723+. I run many docker containers: BitwardenQbittorentJellyfinJoplinKarakeepSonaarRadaarProwlaarNextCloudOnlyOfficeRedis Both the DS218+ and the DS723+ run these containers effortlessly. I have installed extra RAM in each machine. I h

Neither. Neither one of them are servers. They're both Network Attached Storage devices. Both of them have dog shit processors, the Terramaster with a Asmedia SoC, the Synology with a nearly decade old bottom of the barrel Celeron. (Seriously, the J3355 in the 218+ was released in 2016. It has a tot

I built a TrueNAS Scale on the weekend, moving from a DS218+. The amount of fuckery from Synology, disabling working drives and memory with updates, just not worth it.

I have a Synology 218+, but I came across this post on here a few weeks ago because I was having the same issues the OP in that post described; most everyone who replied suggested that their Mac Minis either fixed the issue or the issue one at all for them. So I am just looking...

I've been playing around with a diy nas solution for about 2 months (truenas, unraid and omv). Don't believe all the hype. For most users (easily 95% of the market) dsm is still the only real option. I love how all the synology apps work together as one system. It's also really easy to setup and mai

Eigentlich genau das, was du willst. Wählst du auch eine

I’m no synology expert, but what speed are you trying to improve? Also, I would just take a look at the DSM interface where it shows resources - Which is the bottleneck? I upgraded the ram on my DS218+ which helped quite a bit - but that’s because I started running several docker containers that was
