We tested the impact of SSD speed on gaming performance in 11 titles — we analyzed from SATA to PCIe 5.0 to see whether upgrading to a faster NVMe SSD would have an impact
Had the same thought. The difference between a SATA SSD and a Samsung 980 Pro in a hunt train in FF14 is stark. But I think MMOs are a bit of an outlier with how hard they hammer the disk.

Last sanity check before ordering a Framework 13 Pro for Fedora KDE—what mistakes should I avoid?
Verify RAM pricing first, possibly actually buy modules to lock in whatever cost you're considering as "acceptable". DDR5 5600 SO-DIMMs, when I've looked, are far from being "discounted" when you don't already own them. In that situation - Not already owning RAM/being able to get it (actually) cheap

Is this a real Samsung SSD?
Yeah, as stated, Samsung OEM drives unfortunately dont work fully with Magician. This is a Lenovo drive, LEN(ovo) Part Number SSS0L25196, you can search for it. There's a few different part numbers on there. The actual drive is a PM9A1, pretty good one, here: https://www.techpowerup.com/ssd-specs/sa

External SSD
External with a Gen4 SSD is the golden ticket. Gen5 and you lose the speed gains due to TB5 anyway. Best bet is something like a 980 pro from Samsung and an Acasis TB5 enclosure. You'll maximise the TB5 throughput this way without wasting money on a newer gen5 9100 pro ssd where you wouldn't realise

Just purchased. With prices going up, and the size of GTAVI unknown, this could be a panic buy or a smart move. Like consoles, I'm expecting these to become hard to find in the fall.
I got the 2TB memory card for $90 at the end of 2023 on a clearance deal at Target. And a 2TB Samsung 980 Pro nvme ssd for $70 from Amazon the same week. Considering how much prices have exploded, I consider these some of the best purchases I've ever made.

Is a samsung 990 pro overkill?
Certain games will definitely load faster via the SSD such as the Arcade cores and NEO GEO roms. Just popped in a Samsung 980 1TB NVMe that I was using for random file storage and it runs beautifully on the SS1. Originally tried using a Western Digital 2230 512GB but couldn’t get it to work with the

Should I bother with PCIe 5 SSDs?
Unless you're trying to run your company's database from your lapto;.... Don't worry about it. A PCIe 4.0 or even 3.0 drive is more than fast enough for most people and most use cases. Do be sure to opt for a drive which does NOT have a heatsink - Those will not fit into virtually any laptop (Framew

Was playing cyberpunk then everything crashed....
That's not normal. I've had a sata Samsung 970 Evo for 6 years and I've been working it to death, constantly writing data on it because I compile stuff a lot and it's still working well and a sata Patriot ssd I don't remember the exact model of that's seen lighter usage, but still works fine after 3

SATA or NVMe stick
Ok if you want a high end samsung drive I would recommend the 980 pro or 990 pro you can get cheaper that will still work for you the 9100 pro is a gen 5 drive and the motherboard is gen 4 so it would work but you would be wasting money and gen 5 drives get very hot while gen 4 drives are cooler
