The Era now is my most favourite device, but I still use my InkPad 4 for manga (bigger screen). I said fine because I could in the past compare my InkPad 4 to a Carta 1300 sunken screen Kobo

Consider also PocketBook Era or InkPad 4. They allow uploading books using USB and File Explorer, or with internet options. They are a bit slow though.
