G30 Hard drive replacement

The CS900 SSD (what you have there) is a DRAM-less design, meaning that performance can suffer under sustained read operations. While I don’t know how frequently a car has sustained read or write operations, DRAM-less designs are, by and large, a cost-saving measure. It’s not an awful drive, but get

Hp compaq nx7300

These hp laptops from that generation are so nice to work on. I would suggest that you get the t7400 instead, it's like 8-10% less powerful but waaaay cheaper than the t7600, that's the CPU I use on my Compaq nc8430 and it runs pretty great. I see that your model has intel GMA 950 integrated graphic

Is this a compatible HDD?

Yes, OP. Your laptop supports 2.5" SATA SSD or HDD. Both use same connectors. I would suggest you to upgrade it with a SATA SSD rather than a HDD because HDD is slower and SATA SSD is faster than HDD (~560Mb/sec). SATA SSD is slower than modern NVME, but faster than a HDD. 8X PNY 250GB CS900 SSDs in raidz3 am I dumb?

So, the PNY CS900 is a very low end laptop Sata SSD and not suitable for anything other then a low end workstation or a low end laptop. I would not use them for anything like ZFS or hosting VM disks. they are DRAM-Less and rely on the controller direct IO access to NAND no PLP, so they do not cache

Need suggestions for new pc

I can, but the problem is its the pny cs900 ssd, only 240gb and runs around 500-550mb/s. Which is kinda slow in today's standard. Another problem is its my mom's old work laptop so idk if she wants to keep her documents on that storage lol

Why do SMB transfer speeds fall off a cliff after a few minutes?

PNY CS900 is DRAMless. its just a low tier SSD. slowdown like this is expected.
