Hey man don't buy the atc-xp, get the guide version (petzl reverso, atc guide or similar). It's only a few $ more.

New grivel crampon straps
Yeah man you need actual straps. The whole point of a C3 crampon, considering your Katahdin project is a summer hike just with snow on it that would work fine with nontechnical, is ease of use. If you start fiddling with a Paracord monstrosity, that ease of use is lost. But you don't need to buy the

Grigri for assisted braking. There are some devices that are like 10% better than a grigri in certain aspects but for all-around versatility, safety, and quality control they're the standard for a reason. First Belaying Device
Black diamond pilot is a great option for the gym and single pitch sport. Grab a petzl reverso for when you need to start rappelling and belaying from the top. I only use my grigri for route development now. Whatever device you use just keep your hand on the brake strand and they're all safe.

Hauling 8b. Pulley system 8c. Rope ascent Don't use it or any similar devices for belays. Your second

New Belay Device for Top Roping
Grigri or a guide mode ATC (e.g. Petzl Reverso, BD ATC Guide, or DMM Pilot). Grigris are the safe, bombproof, and have immaculate quality control. They're the standard assisted braking device for a reason. As you get more advanced, they're also useful for multipitch climbing, self-rescue, and rappel

I would disagree with your assertion that grigris are safer than ATCs for the scenario you described. Backed up with a friction hitch, an ATC is quite safe since the friction hitch will keep the device engaged—even more so if you tie off with a MMO or tie a cat knot below the device. If you extend y
