Based on what you wrote, I’d look at school/commuter bags in the 30-32L range, not pure travel packs. Your real requirements seem to be:good comfort under a heavy load,compression straps so the bag does not feel sloppy when half full,actual water bottle pockets for a 40 oz bottle,and durability that

I would suggest: - Northface Recon or Borealis - Patagonia Blackhole 25L or Refugio Daypack - LL Bean Comfort Carry Patagonia and LL Bean are largely considered to be better companies than Cotopaxi and Bagsmart and have great warranties.

I don’t know what your budget it (these are probably too expensive if you’re looking at Jansport) but check out the Patagonia Refugio day pack 26L, and the Aer Duffle Pack. Both have a duffel front, to keep clothes seperate. The Aer in particular would be a great gym bag but it’s very expensive.
