Protection against water and dust
Hi, I work in an IP rating testing lab. IPX1 is laughable, but the reason it's rated like this is most likely only because they didn't bother with a higher tier certification. IP testing is long and expensive. You don't test the product until it fails, you just test what the manufacturer told you to

Olympus 12-100 compared with the Sigma 20-200.
This is good to know and thank you. I agree that OM System's weather sealing is industry leading! I had the E-M1X on a very heavy Alaska downpour and sleet for 5 hrs and after I dried everything, the 1X is dry as a bone inside. So yeah, I'm keeping the MFT!

Finally forced into buying a new body, but stick with Olympus?
Well personally, I would not get an E-M10.4 simply because the autofocus is only contrast detection. You might be able to get decent results sometimes but it's a bit of a gamble. I would look towards phase detection bodies instead, which fortunately there are plenty. Some options to consider : - E-M

Brand new OM-3 faulty
Oh dear. Sorry to hear about your new OM-3. I have also had problems with OM systems. Had to return OM-1 for repairs. Turns out they had to replace the sensor and the card slot. Only had the camera for 9 months. I got the camera back repaired only a few weeks ago and have traded it in at a UK camera

How weatherproofed are they?
I‘d say if you stick with weather resistant gear you should be fine, but I wouldn’t trust the 20mm/1.7 in the rain at all, same goes for the E-PM1. They should take a good amount of rain and be just fine if dried properly (extended barrels where applicable, dry with cloths …).I‘ve just come back fro

Birding: Should I upgrade my setup or switch over to Nikon?
Im birding with my E-M1 II and switched to the OM-D from a Nikon D750. I really love my Olympus lenses and the E-M1 II and won’t go back to the bigger systems. I use 4/3rds lenses exclusively to trade them with my E-5. The Olympus 50-200 f2.8-3.5 with an MMF-3 and EC-14 converter is unbeatable for p

E-M1X or OM-1 for Macro
Generally, I think you are better off with newer generation gear, and right now you can get an OM-1 MK I in the US for $1,400. There are no differences between it and the Mk II that would affect macro work. Also, you can add the HLD-10 battery grip to the OM-1 giving you a very similar form factor a

Best camera for a safari?
OM-D E-M1X, rugged and durable, it’s one of the best micro 4/3 cameras for wildlife photography. Telephoto lenses are smaller and cheaper too because the small square sensor size essentially acts as a 2x teleconverter, saving space.

Advantages of moving to Mirrorless over DSLR?
I have a mixed fleet of mirrorless and DSLR cameras, both have their advantages…since I am a manual focus fanatic, I have found that it is far easier and accurate to keep my images in focus using DSLRs and I can keep them on for much longer than my mirrorless cameras, I have ALL of my mirrorless cam
