The best choice (must have) for an untreated room is to use monitors with built-in DSP and room correction. Such as Neumann KH 80 DSP / KH120 II etc., IKmultimedia iloud micro monitor Pro / MTM II / Precision 5 etc.

Neumann KH 80 + KH 750 or Genelec 8030 + 7050, both with DSP room correction. The bass won't be excessive with properly placed and tuned sub, actually it will be excellent. Neumann KH80 - best bang for Buck. Get the MA1 if you can; you won’t get anythng close to this honesty and quality of sound in that price range. Also you have the option to later upgrade to KH750 Subwoofer to get a full range system. (You should definitely get some bass traps for that though)
