Orbi 970 with Ubiquity ucg-fiber?
I did this with Orbi 770. Didn't solve any of the reliability issues with the Orbi system for me. Then built out a full UniFi XG switching core too. Everything worked fine on that and solved the backhaul hourly lag / packet loss when fully wired. Didn't help with the wireless implications though, of

Best Bang for the Buck Mesh WiFi System
I'd go with the TP-Link Deco XE70 Pro, it offers the best balance of performance, future-proofing (Wi-Fi 6E), and value. Great for large homes with lots of devices, and supports multi-gig speeds if your fiber plan is fast. Better value than Orbi 770 unless you really need Wi-Fi 7.

real world difference in wireless vs wired backhaul for Orbi 770?
I use MOCA with my Orbi 770 mesh system. Couldn’t be happier. It just works.

Frustration Post
Yes that's how I always deploy my new wifi hardware. I went from old school Netgear Wifi 5 -> Google Nest Wifi Pro -> Orbi 770 -> Eero Max 7 all keeping the same SSID until recently when I decided to retire the old creds.

Problems with iPad / iPhone 16 Pro Max
The reason you’re having issues is because Netgear’s recent firmware for their WiFi 7 products is awful, and it causes the issues you’re having with iOS devices. There’s nothing you can do to fix it. Netgear released a firmware update recently that states in its release notes that it fixed the issue

RBR40 - why keep?
I have the exact same one. Just bought the orbi 770 today with prime day deals. Loved the last system but clearly it was getting overloaded with all my devices. Haven’t been able to connect all my lights in basement for over 3 months. This should fix it:)

Enough is enough…
I had the Orbi 770. Absolute garbage!! Just switched to the EERO Max 7. Literally every problem I had with the Orbi (constant dropping WiFi, older devices unable to connect, satellites dropping, random slow speed, etc..) was resolved with the EERO. Took me about 2 minutes to setup and it has worked

Stream randomly drops to 1FPS
I had a very similar issue with my mesh system… Once I turned off all but the main node, the problem went away. I had a Orbi 770 and it had basically no options to resolve the issue, but then I switched to a TP Link Deco WiFi 7 system and the lag spikes went away as long as I set it to prefer a sing

Giving in to hardwire, Unifi the way to go for the rest?
I've been from Google Nest 6E -> Orbi 770 (Wi-Fi 7) -> Eero Max 7 + Outdoor 7 -> adding a UniFi UCG-MAX as my gateway -> UCG-Fiber and XG switching core -> then full UniFi APs too after an Eero firmware update literally broke AP selection and performance for critical stuff like my remote cameras and

New mesh system
I just upgrade to the Orbi 770 and am very happy with my investment. We have about 20 devices hooked up and the internet speed is extremely fast. We live in a brick house with plaster walls. Make the investment. You will not be disappointed.
