hardware for self made firewall
Get a minisforum MS-01/02 it has 2 x 10gb (X710)sftp ports, and 2x 2.5 gbit utp. You can get with intel(01) or AMD (02) cpu's. It's small and performs perfectly. Only the battery fails after some time, so when it does not boot anymore. Just replace the battery, 3 min work. I use opnsense on proxmox.

Are you self-hosting LLMs in your 10-inch racks? Looking for hardware & model advice!
running an llm in a 10-inch rack is a fun challenge. you're gonna want as much vram as you can fit. for that size, something like a Minisforum MS-01 with a decent gpu could work, though fitting a full-size card is tough. i've seen people have good luck with qwen 2.5 7b or 14b models - they run decen

Low Power, lower performant, quiet, enterprise-ish class server lines
for hyper-v with a handful of DCs and light VMs, three tiers that all stay quiet: top pick: Minisforum MS-01. i13900H or i9-13900H, dual 10GbE + dual 2.5GbE, dual m.2 NVMe + one u.2 slot, takes 96GB DDR5 SO-DIMM. idles around 15W, ramps to 40W under actual load. ~$700 barebones or $1100 with 32GB/1T

What free software is so good you can't believe it's free?
Yeah, so much mileage out of still-good, but older hardware!! I like running an Ubuntu VM with Docker in Proxmox. One of my favorite business builds: Minisforum MS-01 i9 barebones (~$650 USD) 128GB RAM (used to be $500 lol) 3x 8TB NVMe SSD's (used to be $800 lol) @ 2x ZFS mirror boot + 1x replicatio

OWC Jellyfish Nomad Alternatives
Consider this: A single 32TB U.2/U.3 NVME in a Minisforum MS-01. comes with dual 10Gbit nics (SFP+). Its nice because its tiny and fast, add a simple external HDD for running backups/snapshots

Asking advice from the experts!
Look at a minisforum MS-01/02. 2x 10gbit sfp, and 2x 2.5 gbit utp. Just replace battery when it stop starting up, and upgrade bios immediately. The speed is very good. I run proxmox on it, and opnsense is virtual. Just perfect small little system.

I am a complete beginner interested in getting my own server. Here are things I don't really understand
A server is nothing too special, it can be any PC that happens to be running some different software (and is usually running all the time). It will not be cheaper than an external HDD, but it can do way more. I'd say what to get depends on how much money you want to spend. For a few hundred bucks you
