What is the absolute best budget e-reader by tier? Looking for the "cheapest you'd actually recommend"

Not sure why people rave about the Xteink X4. It's an interesting enthusiast's device, but it doesn't even have a frontlight. I wouldn't recommend it as Baby's First E-Reader. Clara BW is a really great choice for the price. You can get a GlowLight 4 used for a really great price, but you have to tw

To those who haven't bought a light for their Xteink device

If you are serious enough in reading, i’d suggest investing in a kobo clara B&W for night reading and the x4 during the day anywhere. Nothing beats a frontlight of ereaders as it is not distracting even if someone sleeps with you in bed

Ereader Recs - Dumb it down for me

I'm in a similar-ish position, and I went with the Kobo Clara BW. It allows side-loading of ebooks, so if you buy books from somewhere other than Kobo you can still read them on it. I also considered colour, but I just want to read books not comics, and from what I heard the b&w e-ink looks sharper

Can you borrow e books from the Winnipeg library e readers?

I have a Kobo (specifically the Clara HD model, the closest equivalent to what they currently sell would be Clara BW). I’ve had it for YEARS, and I love it. The battery lasts forever , it’s a great size (small enough to fit tucked in a purse for travelling), and yes much better than reading from you

What's the best simple book focused e-reader (not Kindle)

Get a kobo Clara bw. The system is easy to use, you can add a library card number for the overdrive feature and read library books on it, and the screen quality is better than the colour one imo. Also it is nice and small and portable. Mine is always in my purse.

First e-reader, Kobo Clara BW or Kindle Paperwhite (jailbroken with KOReader)?

If they're the same price I'd go w the kobo clara bw, to spare yourself the hassle of jailbreaking. Kobo won't delete your sideloaded books at random and you can always decide to install koreader later on.

ereader recs for someone with no idea?

i would go with kobo clara BW price is good latest model so it will last long (good screen, has features like warm light to read at night) and it’s fixable small size (6 inches) works out of the box but allows enough tinkering once you get used to it i can see kobo and its subscription is available

best non-kindle ereaders?

Kobo is your best bet! I have the Clara BW and the Libra Color. The Clara is very portable, I always take it out the house with me. The BW definitely has more contrast and is more clear compared to the color e-ink screen. I notice the difference but it's never bothered me or affected my reading expe

Wanted to buy a reader that could use Libby app from NLB. Is Kobo ok? What else works for you?

I have the Kobo Clara B&W. I bought this specifically to read NLB books. They work very well. However, personally I still prefer the Kindle Paperwhite (epubs and azw) or my iPad Mini (Kindle and Libby). Somehow to me, the UI and fonts/presentation are more pleasant. As a result, the Kobo is now not
