Amazon dropping some Kimdle Support

My 2012 paperwhite works just fine. I am FURIOUS about this. Is there any other option for an e reader that works though? I hate reading on my phone. I don't really want to buy another kindle after this.

Bitter Sweet

I'm pretty miffed about Amazon sending my OG Paperwhite to pasture. It has some significant sentimental value, and going down the sideloading path just changes the experience. What's a good non-Amazon e-reader nowadays?

it's the end of an era

No, as a person who almost exclusively reads books through Libby, our old kindles are bricked. I was furious about this and did a bunch of research to figure out which newer kindle would piss me off the least. I ended up getting a secondhand 2018 paperwhite and I like it enough, though it’s not my 2

Is there a reason outside of being Amazon that Kindles are disliked in this sub (US specific)?

It's a few things: I really, really like page turn buttons. I understand having a touchscreen on these devices, but when the vast majority of your time is going forwards or backwards, in a book, why wouldn't you have buttons for that? So I have an immediate bend against devices that don't have them.

My Kindle is an ad filled wasteland and I regret buying it.

Doesn't work on newer kindles. I left my beloved kindle paperwhite on a plane and had to buy a new one; it now needs to connect to wifi periodically for you to continue reading, which defeats the whole purpose of having a kindle when it does it while you're on a bus or something.

Why is my Xteink faster than every other reader?

Why the hell is this device faster than both the Palma Pro 2 I tried AND my Kindle Paperwhite? Probably because it currently doesn't have hardware resources to spare on nonsense. In my years consulting on IT product development, I've seen the same story replayed endlessly: the first MVP (minimum via

Why no one talks about Kindle in India?

Buying books on Kindle has become expensive imo. When I bought Kindle back in 2016, they allowed any Epubs downloaded from internet to be copied on the device. But, since 2022-23, they stopped allowing that. Now, you have to upload your legally purchased Epubs to their store and download it from the
