Is there a reason outside of being Amazon that Kindles are disliked in this sub (US specific)?
It's a few things: I really, really like page turn buttons. I understand having a touchscreen on these devices, but when the vast majority of your time is going forwards or backwards, in a book, why wouldn't you have buttons for that? So I have an immediate bend against devices that don't have them.

Need your opinions, handsome people that you all are.
The Kobo Libra Colour is a solid choice, especially for manga compared to a Kindle Paperwhite. The bigger screen and color will definitely improve the experience, but keep in mind that color e-ink is still a bit muted compared to tablets. If manga is your main focus, you might also want to look at s

Daily Discussion - May 14, 2026
I have the Kobo Clara BW, which I got to replace a Kindle Paperwhite that I had for a hot minute in early-2024 before they announced the KCBW. In hindsight, I should have just gotten a Kobo to begin with, given that their now discontinued Kobo Libra 2 cost the same as what I paid for my Kindle. As f

single vs multiple libraries in Grimmory
OPDS is the next step. To encourage my daughter to read, I got her a Kobo—which is so much better than my Kindle Paperwhite—and she’s just waiting for me to get her bookshelf sorted out again :)

What do you not like about e-readers?
Arbitrary UI changes by the manufacturer. Amazon just did some updates to kindle and I hate the new setup for highlighting, the button has been shrunk and the dictionary behavior fiddled with so it's slide up instead of a window. For a device made to increase font sizes their UI font size options ar

What do you prefer? Digital or physical
I'd say just increase your font size. I wear glasses, when I cant wear glasses like at the barbers I just make the font bigger and I can read no problem. Most phones these days are about 6 inches so its very doable. The kindle is a nice device but it depends on which version you get. As I said in my

What tablet do you recommend for writing, general app usage, web browsing under $500?
For under $500 and what you want, I’d go iPad. Something like a base iPad (9th or 10th gen) just works. Fast enough for browsing, all the apps you need, easy keyboard support, and no weird limitations. You can actually turn it off too, unlike Kindle. For reading, it’s not e-ink, but if you turn on N

Does anyone actually use ‘entire work’ setting? Not being judgmental just curious
If I'm not going to be at home or in any situation where I'm going without power I'll load the whole thing. Way back when, I could get on AO3 with the experimental browser on my 1st gen kindle paperwhite. Didn't need to charge it for 6 weeks; reading in entire work mode was the only way you didn't w

Kobo v kindle
Your Library doesn't sort by currently-reading or anything? Not in collections view. That's why Kobo's UI is better, I don't need to fiddle with filters to find things, my 4 currently reading books are on the top of my home page, and the "my books" page has separate tabs for books - authors - series
