Early in my career I made sure I had ethernet ran to every room, had a PIX firewall in my basement, had a torrent server running, etc. Now? I just use Google Nest Wifi connected directly to the ONT and spread a few extra mesh units around the house. No need to make anything complex.

It’s very unclear what your problem is. The most important question: If you’re hardwired to your Ethernet jack (where the internet in the house comes in), is the internet reliable? If no, investigate different providers. Sonic or MonkeyBrains are probably the best in SF, if they’re available to you.

I have it. Speeds are great. Seamless roaming does not work as well as the Google Nest WiFi 5 system it replaces however.

It's strange that people have polar opposite experiences with Google's Wifi routers, something is going on My Nest Wifi has been solid for 5 years I had it, though it is a single unit, no mesh.

Get a mesh wifi system. Any will do. I use Google Nest simply because it ties in to my other Google devices and also functions as a speaker.

Don't do a repeater or extender. You've already tried Google Wifi: if you like it alright as a system, maybe try adding a couple of the Nest Wifi (not Pro) router/points as the closet connections (they'll play nice with the pucks if you want to keep 1 or 2 around; Nest Wifi Pro will not). I use one
