Can anyone recommend a desktop? (Not for gaming)
Mini PCs are a good option. Multi-monitor support. This comes with 16 GB RAM, 512GB storage Ryzen 5 is great for everyday use, and it has a 3 year warranty. https://www.amazon.com/GEEKOM-A5-Coverage-Computer-Bluetooth/dp/B0F2MCQ8XQ/ref=sr_1_13

Looking for good hardware of Mini-PC, Debian 12, changeable SSD
We made our decision and ordered a Geekom A5 for €469. The machine is small, quiet, and almost as aesthetically pleasing as a Mac Mini. We've already found positive experiences from other users with the A5 running Linux in various forums. It seems to be stable and durable. The vendor is based in Ger

Even has a SATA SSD slot 2242, I think. Prices jumped up right after I purchased mine. Would cost nearly $700 now. A Gee

Lack of 2.5" SATA SSD compatibility in all of GMKtec's mini pcs...
There are plenty of mini PCs with 2.5" bays: ZBOX CI337 nano, Geekom A5 2025 version, Beelink SER5, etc... Pretty much every mini PC brand/manufacturer I've looked into has at least a couple of models with 2.5" bays. GMKtec appears to be the only one to have completely deprecated it for some reason.

Lack of 2.5" SATA SSD compatibility in all of GMKtec's mini pcs...
SATA speeds are not a significant bottleneck for most every day uses, and I wager that most mini PC buyers are not going to perform high-throughput or graphically intensive work on such hardware (at least on budget/mid-range units). Many people are still using 2.5" SSD drives and they aren't buying
