Anyone know anything about the updated GriGri+ ?
I’m enjoying the Edelrid Pinch at the moment, I like that it doesn’t flop around, and honestly think I can lower more smoothly with it. A guide told me he prefers it to the grigri with icy ropes. It has a more dedicated channel for the rope to run and add a bit to the braking. Comes with that same 2

Anyone tried Beal Birdie? Is it good for lead belaying?
I like my Birdie ok. I like that it's straight-feed and not to the side like a Grigri. This helps to reduce rope kinks. But overall it was just easier for me to follow my path dependence on the Grigri. After using the Neox, I prefer this for lead belaying on single pitch. It's lovely. Kinks less but

Oppinions on Petzl Rig and alternatives
A couple of questions really need to be answered to narrow down the options. Do you care about weight? Do you want an anti panic function? Do you want to be following manufacturers instructions? There are (to the best of my knowledge) no devices desgined to be used on a single rope abseil that when

New to the hobby, how did I do for $125/any other gear I should pick up to learn on?
Edelrid pinch is even better, especially for weight differences a girl would face. Lowers smoother and no chance of rope burn

New Belay Device for Top Roping
Love the edelrid pinch especially that it doesn't twist the rope and the rope bearing surfaces are steel. But it sucks at top belay with skinny ropes.

Saddle guys. This look right? First time
Try swapping out the rope grab on the tether for a belay device like a Petzl grigri or an Edelrid Pinch. You don't have to unload the tether to release or take tension on the rope. just slide the tail through a carabiner where you have your girth hitch and then you can pull the tail to stand up and

Get the edelrid pinch. It’s same giving slack but lowering is so smooth and better for when you are much lighter

Anybody using Beal Birdie for lead climbing? What’s your thoughts?
I think a lot of dislike for the grigri from people who originally learned to lead belay on an ATC comes from just not having enough practice with it to belay smoothly. I was a grigri hater for years (used an edelrid jul 2 as my ABD for a long time) and have switched to the grigri as of a couple yea
