Should I invest in a better bag for day hikes?
I got me a 20l Deuter speed lite pro in black this year. It’s the best bag I ever carried. Idk if it relieves back pain but very well designed and executed, esp the pockets. I LOVE the shoulder and hip pockets and the tilted water bottle pocket so I rarely need to take the bag off. To note, I cross

All Sport Backpack good for hiking?
I find that oddly for a brand that mainly caters to women, Lululemon has quite wideset straps on the backpacks! Also the lack of waistbelt is a big problem, especially given the sloppy fit. I have one for travel (and I normally do a lot of hiking on my travels) and it's pretty much been fired and de

Any small, affordable hiking backpack?
Take a look at Deuter packs, perhaps the Deuter Trail 25 (right at $100 on REI). I have the Deuter Speed Lite Pro 25 and it is the finest daypack I've ever owned. It's a little pricier at $130. Both are zippered top loaders, with multiple interior pockets, somewhat stretchable sidepockets, and as la

Beginner Advice Requested: Budget Backpacks
Take a look at the Deuter Speed Lite Pro 25L pack. Perfect for long day hikes. I have one and it's the best day pack I've ever owned. Light, comfortable, extremely durable, nice design, plenty of pockets, and $130.

Is this pack overkill?
congrats, you are now an ultralight hiker, please saw off your toothbrush. honestly, I like the backpack and I like the looks of it. Price is also adequate for US made DCF Packs. Are the straps too wide for your? Also, consider upgrading it with a hip belt. The company might help you with it, otherw

Any advice on which backpack to get for hikes?
Looks like you are in Germany. Just buy a Deuter (or other available brand with good straps etc.) They often have a build in raincover, hippocket for lenscap, open sidepocket that you can put your tripod in. You can put your smaller things like extra batteries, wallet and SD cards in the compartment

Gear reccomendations
Based on my own experience, I'd recommend the Marmot minimalist pertex jacket. You can get it from REI and probably other vendors in the $140 range. If you want to go cheaper, you can drop down to the lighter PreCip Eco Rain Jacket for less than $100. Both are properly seam taped but use slightly di

Gossamer Gear Fast Belt reviews and daypack recs
Hey! I ended up getting a Deuter speed light pro 23 SL pack and I’m pretty happy with it. The pockets are great, the hip belt is load bearing (not quite the same as a heavy duty frame and foam belt, but still takes the burden off your shoulders significantly). And I like that it has a foam back that

Is this pack overkill?
Update - I decided not to keep the pack but spouse thinks he can use it on occasion, so I don't think he plans to return it. I ordered an Osprey Sportlite 15L, but didn't like the fit, the loops for the trekking poles (too small for my poles with rubber tips on them), and the main compartment was qu
