Is this a good camera to start out with?

At that price buy this: R50 kit. Modern, lighter, etc... you'll be much happier:https://www.usa.canon.com/shop/p/refurbished-eos-r50-rf-s18-45mm-f4-5-6-3-is-stm-lens-kit?color=Black&type=Refurbished

Have you tried a point and shoot for travel?

If you can deal with a single focal length, the Fuji X100VI and Ricoh GR III are both fantastic. There's also the option of a small mirrorless and compact zoom lens, like a Canon R50 + 15-45.

Sydney Daily Random Discussion Thread 13/04/2026

I've been running an old Canon DSLR for a couple years that I got as a hand-me-down, and one of my friends lent me their R50 so I could get some sporting shots of them. Despite neither of them being particularly bulky pro-grade things, the R50 was significantly lighter and noticeably more compact th

What next after M50?

Your frustration with Canon discontinuing the M series is understandable, especially considering the excellent balance of quality and portability it offered. The M6 Mark II would indeed be an upgrade for your 4K video needs, but since it’s hard to find, you’re at a crossroads where future-proofing b

Youth Soccer

Canon R50 with a lens adapter could be a good choice. A little smaller than the camera you have, excellent autofocus compared to what you have (keep it set to AF Servo to track motion, which you can also do on your current camera), and it has an electronic shutter that is silent. However, the electr

Thinking about getting my first camera before moving to Chile, any advice?

Some of the entry level Mirrorless cameras are good for learning, and because of their interchangeable lenses, they have a great deal of flexibility. See the Canon R50, Nikon Z 50 and Z 30 which may be in your budget. The kit lenses that comes with these are lightweight and flexible to start. I also

Is it "weird" to go solo on an Alaskan cruise as a married man?

Canon R50. Very light compared to DSLR. Also have an older Canon 80D which is older good semi pro camera but it just became a pain to drag around. With the R50 I can just throw on a smaller zoom lens and be good for the day. Camera stats Canon EOS R50 • 24.2 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor • DIGIC X d

Is Nikon Z50 II better than Canon R50 bundle for a beginner?

Z50ii is on the same level as a Canon R10 or R7. The R50 is a cut down R10. I own an R10 but favor Nikon for full frame. I got the R10 because it was cheap (at the time, no longer) and small, but has poor battery life. The image quality of the R10 is ho-hum. I bought the 10-18mm lens and it's underw

The wallpaper Linus Torvalds uses in his personal setup

I bought myself a Canon R50 earlier this year for a trip, I've been taking photos everywhere with it in RAW to drag-drop into my wallpaper folder on my desktop. I love taking and using my own photos. Good way to avoid sneaky watermarks too!
