HD 650/ HD 6XX (same headphone, but a cheaper special edition from drop.com) are legendary for mixing and mastering. And for good reason. Check out this review that includes independent measurements by Sonarworks https://www.sonarworks.com/blog/reviews/sennheiser-hd650-review And then if you compare

If you’re looking for more accurate flat sound and aren’t worried about noise bleed or anything like that, then you could always go with a studio monitor like the Audio Technica MX50, Beyer Dynamic DT 990 Pro X, or Sennheiser HD560S. These are definitely meant for studio use and are not convenient f

You’re supposed to turn it off when you export. When you apply EQ, crossfeed, or room simulation to headphones, it’s only for monitoring. The goal is to work against an EQ target that translates better to other systems, or to have a stereo image that behaves more like speakers. So yes, it does chang

It’s not good. The target they aim for is too flat, it lacks low end, and it’s too bright for good translation. I used to use it, but every time I kept turning the mix knob down, until one day I was using less than 50%, so I thought, what’s the point of this? Also my mixes translated poorly everywhe

If your instinct is out of alignment with the actual sound of your headphones, you'll always have translation problems. Correction profiles attempt to help with that by smoothing out peaks and valleys in the frequency

Mixing with even great, neutral headphones is difficult. Mixing with Beyerdynamics is next to impossible. Learning a suboptimal speaker setup is much easier. You can check and compare the low end to references even with the Beyers. An untreated room will have problems, but you can easily alleviate m

DT-990 is great! If you are using it to produce music and have translation issues you can try Beyerdynamic Headphone Lab. It does EQ correction and room simulation. It's free, and the corrective EQ is fantastic - only downside is it doesn't have a systemwide driver yet. Aside from that, Realphones 2
