What's Wrong with a Basic Plex Server Install on Windows
Nothing wrong at all. I still have the windows that came installed on beelink s12 pro mini PC. Lots of posts here on how to use Linux and/or dockers I got none of that. Ars and Plex installed on windows. Works beautifully.

Best OS to host your Plex server in 2025?
Im comfortable with windows so I recently set up my Plex server on a Beelink S12 pro with windows 11. Frankly, it just works. No need for research, trouble-shooting or anything. Also got Plex pass and hw transcoding again, just works. Tested locally with an LG TV app, remotely on my android phone an

What brands or models to stay away from
A $150 BeeLink S12 Pro includes a 512gb M.2 with Win11, 16GB DDR4 Ram and has a spare 2.5” drive bay to add an SSD. We have several of these little systems. Ram can be expanded to 32GB. We’ve put both 2TB and 4TB M.2 drives in and an 8TB SSD drive. My son uses one with Proxmox hypervisor and pfSense

Overall cheapest price for a actual good computer
Under $200, if by "good" you mean good for everyday tasks, not advanced gaming. Check out the Beelink Mini S12 Pro. link.

Need Server Upgrade Advice
The most common recommendation for the last few years as been the Beelink Mini S12 Pro with an n100. I have not kept up on prices and I know they have newer version with an n150 CPU. They might be damn near the same price so you'd have to look around Amazon and see what deals you can find. They can

Zero network smart home
Depending on the model, HA will run fine on a Synology, but you may find you outgrow it. The "+" models get a faster processor than the basic model, and a memory upgrade slot. I stuck another 4GB RAM in my DS920+ and ran HA in a VM for a couple of years. It ran fine but was very slow to load. A full

[B0T] Weekly Build Help Thread - 2026/02/16
Summary: I'm looking to upgrade the storage for my Plex server; currently have an old QNAP NAS; thinking a DAS might be a better alternative, as long as my miniPC can handle it with its other responsibilities. ... Your budget - Frivolous (within reason and spousal consultation) Current hardware (if

Help me find a smoking Mini PC for $300 or less
I recently got the Beelink Mate MINI S Dock for MINl S12/S12 Pro & MINl S13 to attach to my MINI S13 and it's made the little PC even more handy. 5x2.5Gbps happily running Plex, 2 docker VMs, Pihole, and OPNSense without breaking a sweat.

Team morale and focus(weekly prep question)
I got heavily into emulation so I built a little batocera machine from a Beelink S12 Pro. Not a bad little machine if you want to go that route, though I haven't been able to get the newer modded 2K5 to work on it. I'm just playing with default rosters.

Whose nas is slowly morphing into a server. Also interesting/useful docker containers..
Absolutely.. as I said.. we all start out small and with one system. That said, if you really want to self host and keep your data safe.. your first goal should be a dedicated NAS server with room for 2 mirrored boot drives and 6 matching disks for raidz2. TrueNAS makes it extremely easy but true no
