Best OS to host your Plex server in 2025?
Im comfortable with windows so I recently set up my Plex server on a Beelink S12 pro with windows 11. Frankly, it just works. No need for research, trouble-shooting or anything. Also got Plex pass and hw transcoding again, just works. Tested locally with an LG TV app, remotely on my android phone an

Can't decide between Beelink SER9 mini PC vs gaming desktop — need advice (7 year plan)
Although I do have a Beelink S12 pro for about 15 months now and it works flawlessly, the general "feel," one gets when reading on Reddit is that all these ( any brand, not Beelink in particular) mini pcs are not famous for their longevity ( fingers crossed for mine ). If you are after longevity I t

Dedicated low power consumption rig for Frigate
I don't have any experience with the hailo chips, but I built a dedicated Frigate box with an N100 mini PC. I used a Beelink S12 pro w/16GB RAM and added a 4TB 2.5" SATA 870 EVO SSD. I think the newer ones are dual m.2 and don't do 2.5" SATA anymore, but I could be wrong there. It works very well fo

Any performance increase switching from Windows to Linux?
I have a basement NOC with more enterprise gear then I should and yet.. my Plex and JellyFin servers run on a cheap N100 BeeLink S12 Pro with 16GB ram and Debian Linux. It’s a 10 minute install. Transcoding is great. Multiple 4K, 1080P and audio no issues. Yes, plex runs better under Debian. Use the

Zero network smart home
Depending on the model, HA will run fine on a Synology, but you may find you outgrow it. The "+" models get a faster processor than the basic model, and a memory upgrade slot. I stuck another 4GB RAM in my DS920+ and ran HA in a VM for a couple of years. It ran fine but was very slow to load. A full

What type of miniPC to go for?
Depends on what game servers of course. Besides that, couple of containers and a sync storage - n100/150 is a good choice for that. Been running HTPC +10 containers for over a year on beelink S12 pro n100 based mini pc. It has some bottle necks that sometimes YouTube 1080p would chug. Maybe I need t

Haven’t had any issues with my plex server for years
The only time I had a problem with it, was when it was installed on the Nvidia shield. Every time there was an update for the shield, it was a crap shoot whether or not it corrupted my database. I finally moved it to a beelink S12 Pro and not one problem since.

Best CPU for a media server 4+ people
Go buy a small N100 type mini PC. I have 10s of $1000 in my home network setup and my Plex/JellyFin server is a $150 BeeLink S12 Pro with 16GB ram and a 512GB NVME. It’ll do multiple 4K streams and many other lower quality. Mine are a bit older and included an NVME but also had an SSD tray. Newer on
