I had an Asus ROG Ally but it died. Steam deck was cheaper to get new than a used Ally. So I did.

ROG Ally X USB-C failure after extended plugged-in use (thermal + mechanical design issue)
It was motherboard issue. It was fried due to high temperature. Temps should be below 75 at all times. Below 70 is ideal. Asus replaced the motherboard and it was back to normal. It's ironic that stock 30W turbo mode can destroy your Ally

Is that an rog ally z1e? If so where can i get the replac3ment housing? Asus used gods shittiest plastic in these and mine is cracked to hell from a litteral 1ft drop onto carpet :|

What pc handheld should I get that is not super expensive?
Shop used. I recently picked up an OG Legion Go for $580 in a country where tech is notoriously expensive. I can recommend the Legion Go if you're not looking for something super compact or if you're okay with either shit battery life or upgrading the battery yourself. Otherwise, look into an Asus R

What is a good alternative to the steam deck! It looks genuinely uncomfortable? I want to be able to dock it as well if possible.
A rog ally with the z1e is great, I use it myself But if you want to you can even buy the xgm from asus which is expensive but with a gpu like the 4090 or even a 3070 (all mobile versions) are awesome, maybe not that much value but it will give you the best dock experience

Should i cave in and get a Steam Deck through FB Marketplace? What was your experiences if you bought from there.
I would think Ebay is safer, but if you’re looking for a deal, FB Marketplace or r/hardwareswap. I used Marketplace to snag an Asus ROG Ally X + Spigen travel case for $450 last week. Steam deck or legion go?
Shitty. Really shitty. I ended up returning it and getting a used ASUS ROG Ally X (2024) for $430. It has 94% battery health and it’s been fantastic. So much more comfortable to hold and the battery is way way better.

ASUS ROG Ally X (2024) is a lot better. I got mine for $430 USD off Facebook Marketplace.
