Parents iMac M1 broke down - what would you do?

Take it to a very reputable repair store that specializes in microsoldering. I guess the quote of 850€ is from apple for a swap cause its imposible it costs that for a soldering repair. I dont know what exactly happens to the board as you didnt specify but im very sure if it doesnt boot its just a v

Is this good computer? I’m buying and need help!

It is far greater than a standard computer. That's the model and specs I have and it is overkill for my usage, I'm a fairly light user. I would have been more than fine with a M4 16/512 but I had the money to treat myself and I did and I expect to be happy with it for a very long time. But without s

Thinking of getting my first Mac

You might consider a M4 Pro Mac mini. Those start with 24GB. Also the M4 Pro has TB5 ports and they sound a ton faster than TB4 ports so monitor options are better and TB5 rated external drives would smoking fast. I'm not familiar with your tools but they likely do require RAM but I feel MacOS (and

Two macs one monitor

Odd. Perhaps mess with the display settings on the one without screen. My 2018 Mac mini can go fullscreen on screen sharing on my M4 Pro Mac mini. Only a power cable and external drive connected to the 2018 mm, it isn't even currently connected to TV or a monitor. I've only messed with it a little t

Is 6k @ 32" really better than 4K at 27"?

I went from a 5k 27 inch iMac to a 6k 32 inch Dell monitor, and I think it is awesome. I sit close, but not super close to it, and the native Mac scaling from my M4 Pro Mac Mini seems to be perfect. So I'd say spend some time with the Kuycon G32P once it arrives and see how it works for you. But I r

5K Monitor Owners: Much difference between 4K and 5K 27-inch displays?

I used my 1440p 27” gaming display permanently on my m4 pro Mac mini until I sold it for profit. I used the display app everyone recommends to activate hidpi mode which worked beautifully and did make an improvement on the text. FYI it’s 4k that does not play nice with Mac. 1440p scales the same as

Specs for working on a mac

Avoid intel completely, my 2019 MBP was getting very slow last year (5-6 minute build times) and eventually the logic board failed, something apple won't repair anymore. I work off a M4 Pro Mac Mini with 64GB & 1TB, its a rocketship. Extremely fast, build times are very quick and the UI is snappy on
