The biggest performance upgrade IMO is replacing the HDD with a SSD. Watch out for cheap SSDs though, they likely will not have a DRAM cache, the unbranded or obscure branded ones particulary. Personally I'd always go for a known performance brand with a DRAM cache, e.g. Samsung 870 EVO or WD Blue S

From GOTA(Twitter) Landmine Pattern 1: DRAM-less NVMe relying on HMBIn 24H2, the HMB allocation jumped from 64 MB to 200 MB → DMA fault → Controller went silent → OS detected "Surprise Removal" and SMART could no longer be read. 2. Old Phison FWThe E12 generation is prone to timeouts when rewriting

Depends on the workload; we don't have a lot of workloads left that call for 2.5" SATA, but (as a business) we'll pay extra now for Kingston DC600 and Solidigm (Intel) D3-series. For actual consumer, WD Blue SA510 is generally okay unless we stumble on an infrequent sale with the WD RED SA500.

I remember way back jumping on the older 1 TB WD Blue SATA drive when I started seeing these SA510s coming out because the SA510s don't have DRAM and use some sort of pseudo-SLC cache instead.

Can confirm, I'm pretty on top of things with firmware updates and such and I think my 1 TB SA510 is dying/the source of my BSODs. Luckily I have time until next summer to RMA but was shocked considering I've had other WD Blue SSDs and they were quite reliable. Beware if you get this and make sure t

I guess you mean the WD Blue, not the SanDisk Ultra. And "cheap" in the current sense, that is, just a bit more than twice what it cost a year ago. WD SA510 1TB (WDS100T3B0A) - $180:https://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-SA510-Internal-Solid/dp/B09ZYQ84CM
