Curious about home server
This is a huge question with an even bigger answer. Hang on... Step 1: You need a box to act as a server. There are a few common options you will see discussed; Second hand office PC with an 8th Gen intel or newer (~$200). These are cheap but can be tricky to add HDDs because most are SFF and have l

Welche HDD an die Fritzbox? Empfehlung

I think the ugreen will be better as it should have more powerful processor. But keep in mind that that ugreen model won’t have space for an internal SSD (which is where you should store Immich’s postgresql db) I would personally go with a dxp2800 so that you can have 2 nvme SSDs

DPX2800: Does this setup make sense?
Why install Truenas? If it's because you think everyone does it, be aware of positive bias. I believe most Ugreen users don't because they're happy with the default, but a vocal minority do. There's nothing wrong with Truenas, but there's also nothing wrong with UGOS. Both are linux, just with diffe

How do you guys save the gigantic amounts of pictures you take?
A NAS is a Network Attached Storage. It's basically an energy-efficient computer specialized in storing data that you keep running 24/7. Example: https://nas-eu.ugreen.com/products/ugreen-nasync-dxp4800-plus-nas-storage You stil need to buy a bunch of harddrives. (the "ARRAY" he referred to) For me,

NAS or raspberry pi?
A Pi is a prototyping board, not a PC. You use it for electronic stuff, experimenting, not as PC. Those things are pretty unstable and unreliable for using them as PC or NAS, i talk for experience. The cost of a Pi5 (120 Euro plus everything needed to work as a NAS, add another 70/100 Euro) is highe

I need advice for a compact storage server - 20TB
Second this. The Beelink ME Mini Pro is a good choice with a tiny footprint. I am eyeing it for a 10” build. A decent runner-up could be the two-bay UGREEN DXP2800 on its side.

NAS suggestions
I went with ugreen dxp2800. Just 2 Bay, I'm sure at one point ill need to get a 4 bay but that is years and years away. I have multiple spare external drives. And cloud storage as well. But the NAS is for plex and so far it's great.

Ugreen or homelab?
I recently bought ugreen dxp2800 2 day and its been super simple. Setup is fast and easy. Mostly using docker and been a few days and no complaints. Learning curve is quick imo. Few issues due to my lack of knowledge but already figured it out. I love it so far. I have a mini pc on debian 13 for gam
