NAS is dead. What should I move to?
I’d avoid Synology, they’ve been causing quite the controversy lately. UGreen has some nice pre built NAS in 2/4/6/8 bay models that let you install any OS you want, including TrueNAS. They have a 4 bay model and another 4 bay with 10Gbe. DXP4800 and DXP4800 Plus. Base model is Intel n100 CPU with 3

I’ve never heard that before. I have all HDD bays populated on my UGreen DXP8800 Plus and both M.2 slots populated as well. No issues.

6800 Pro enough for Plex & a VM?
I have a QNAP TS-431 too. It’s sort of decommissioned now at an offsite location. Same for my old Synology DS1815+ doing some basic tasks. My main NAS units now are a QNAP TS-653D (6 bay) and a UGreen DXP8800 Plus (8 bay). If you’re coming from a QNAP TS-431 and it’s served you well, you might want

Ugreen AI NAS coming this summer
UGreen DXP8800 Plus (Kickstarter) user here. While I am satisfied and curious about the new offering, I’m also interested in the Zettlabs lineup which look really good.

Any new models coming from Ugreen? I need a NAS with 8 drive bays
I am not sure if they will release new models as the current ones are from last year. So I am running a DXP8800 Plus with 8x 2.5" SATA SSDs from Samsung and I am very happy to moved from a Synology DS1821+ to the Ugreen NAS.

What NAS BRAND?? UGREEN Plus and Pro versions. Advice needed.
I had used several UGREEN products in the past and was very satisfied with them as a brand. When they moved into the NAS market, it made sense, but I was apprehensive about the newness of UGOS. That said, almost from the start they were very open about letting you installing your own OS, so that is

ZIMAOS
Same, I have a UGreen DXP8800 Plus populated with six 16TB WD Red and two 20TB WD Red drives. No issues whatsoever. I haven’t tried ZIMAOS but I would like to. I’ve been thinking of setting up ProxMox on a DIY server so I might try it there. If you try it (or anyone else) I’d like to hear about your

Should I wait for Prime Day (Oct 7-8) / Black Friday to buy HDD's for trueNAS build?
I watched Amazon for a while (months) and at least for the drives I was looking at, 24TB Seagate IronWolf Pro’s the price would occasionally drop from $479 to $439. But new HDD’s seem to stay pretty steady on price without many good discounts. I ended up looking into and getting 28TB used Seagate Ex

The choice is clear. UGREEN is Just Better.
I’m really happy with my Kickstarter UGreen DXP8800 Plus and can say it’s the best NAS I’ve ever owned. Better then my Synology DS1815+ and better then my QNAP TS-653D. There are some interesting competing options on the horizon like the Aoostar WTR Max for those looking to install their own OS and
