Would these be suitable to setup a very beginners NAS?
You can get a proper NAS for your money, an all in one package if you like. Look for UGREEN NASync DXP4800 Plus or simmilar.

Better Than Black Friday! DXP4800 Plus for $296
IKR! Funny enough thats what I was going in there to get, the DXP 2800, and they were the same price. I was like wait, what… I’ll take the DXP4800 Plus instead lol. 😂

My DXP 4800 Pro just arrived 😍
Congratulations - even the Pro Version. Great future proof pick! Out of the box my DXP 4800 Plus was very loud when hard disk was working. You can add some rubber (or silicon feet) on the bottom - https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0CVHCXYK3 Replace the Fan with a Noctua - https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07655KF5C

Too Many Options... Best NAS for Backup + Media Server
If you want a nice prebuilt, you could look at Ugreen or TerraMaster. Both are unlocked units and unlike Synology, you can use the OS and drives of your choice. In the 4 bay, I think the Ugreen DXP4800 (N100) for $499 or DXP4800 Plus (Pentium Gold 8505) for $595 is the best bang for buck. There is t

Anyone 'regret' coming from another NAS ecosystem - and going to ugreen ugos?
No remorse so far with DXP4800+ (2024 kickstarter $420) coming from coming Synology DS107e (2007 $200), DS410 (2011 $500), DS218+ (2019 $250). Synology was getting too expensive and not enough HW for their pricing.

Before I buy the UGREEN 4800+ Please Help Me Make Certain I Have These Choices Correct...
Honestly, the 4800+ is probably the best value on the market right now. Its not a super fast chip, as its a N100 plus a single alder lake P-Core. The thing is, its WORLDS faster than anything from Synology that is running 7+ year old tech in their systems. The DXP4800 comes with a 120gb NVMe BOOT dr

I can't choose between these 4 NAS setups.
You have an Celeron N5095, N95, an N100, and a Pentium 8505 Gold. The 8505 is just an N100 with a single alder lake P-core, but it sure does spank everything else in this list of yours. The N100 and N95 are the same 4x gracemont e-cores, but the N95 is 15w while the N100 is 6w. The Celeron is 5 year

Synology walks back drive restrictions on upcoming NAS models
I purchased my first pre-built NAS this year because I'm tired of building my own stuff. I went with UGREEN specifically because of this restriction. Way to go, Synology. I really like my DXP4800+.

Looking for a 4Bay Nas that'll allow me to install Ubuntu, consider the WAF (wife approval factor)
I bought a little Ugreen DXP4800+ and installed TrueNAS on it. The warranty allows you to install any OS you like so that’s nice. It’s been great, I also didn’t want to mess with building another system either and I love the small form factor. The GF approves in a big way.
