Advice needed: Is my data safe from bad actors?

I installed Ubuntu server and casaos. Ugos was great for beginners but it's got weird permissions and scripts that override changes to its system when power users tinker. My firewalla gold SE did show it contacting home (to china when using UGOS but as a Chinese brand I expected it to) in small amou

SSD cache question

Change your plans, as noted already by others. There are a lot of YouTubers out there that make false or misinformed claims. I watched one guy claim outright that installing an NVMe cache on the DXP4800+ makes the file transfer speeds so much faster. Yet he never ran a proper before NVMe and after N

2 bays or 4 bays in this user case ?

I'm literally just moving my files to my DXP2800. If money is not a problem, then for all means go for the DXP4800 Plus (it is at USD 594 right now on their site). I was thinking the same thing, but it will take me a while to need more storage than the 2x 12TB hard drives I have. Plus I know you wil

New version Arc Loader 3.1.0

I upgraded from 3.0.7 to 3.1.0, still on DSM 7.2.2 (Ugreen DXP4800 Plus). The only thing I lost in the upgrade as far as I can tell is the Fan Control in the control panel. It used to work fine in 3.0.7 but the options are no longer there. The fans are detected, speed is shown correctly, they are co

Right NAS for my Usecase

I just want to note that you'll be stuck with whatever hardware you buy, so if there'll be some better, heavier models in Immich, it's possible you won't be able to use them. I say that as someone who got the DXP4800 with Intel N100, I thought I wouldn't need better hardware, but the thought that I

Fix for UGREEN DXP4800+ thermal throttling on Unraid — CPU hits 100°C because fans are bound to board temp, not CPU temp

Very curious to talk to other owners here and compare notes. I’ve had two dxp4800+ that both immediately shoot up to near 100c under load, but things seem to have been running fine. I’m not sure if we have the same issue though, because I’m pretty sure I have both fans mapped, and I can hear them ru

Fix for UGREEN DXP4800+ thermal throttling on Unraid — CPU hits 100°C because fans are bound to board temp, not CPU temp

I don't think this is right... I have the DXP4800+ and the CPU fan does indeed ramp up. That being said, it still frequently hits 100 degrees under heavy load. The thermal paste mod is supposed to fix that, but I haven't tried. I suspect one of your plugins is preventing the CPU fan from spinning up

Is DIY NAS still worth it in 2026?

Ok. Start with a cheap laptop, make sure you can get 4 or more SATA drives going over PCIe in addition to the boot drive, and make sure you have power for it all... Oh look, here's one for $90 that has an Intel i7-1185G7 CPU. Comes with a 256GB boot M.2, 8GB DDR4, built in UPS, keyboard, display...
