Considering an Outdoor AP

U7 Outdoor would be best. U6 Mesh apparently has a design defect that lets water in over time and it corrodes and dies. https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubiquiti/comments/1s1or4w/avoid_u6_mesh_these_have_a_design_flaw_that/

IPx5 my rear end 🥲 Had it on my garage for 2 years and 6 months through all sorts of crazy weather, but a light drizzle last week killed it

Unfortunately this is a known issue with these. You gotta give them hats. https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubiquiti/comments/1hxauih/u6_mesh_waterproof_hats/

PSA Mesh is fine for a lot of people

It’s not that UniFi is a bad mesh system. It’s that if you’re already resorting to mesh instead of wired backhaul, IMO there are better solutions that are easier to use and cost less. Eero is widely known as basically a completely bulletproof mesh system. High throughput, excellent range, incredibly

PSA Mesh is fine for a lot of people

I've also set up UI for myself and multiple other users I think you're falling into the same trap a lot of us do here, and it's understandable. YOU set those up for other people, so the baseline for those is actually YOUR technical knowledge, not theirs. We have a lot of technical knowledge on here,

U6 Mesh melts

Normally, I would not expect them to. In the case of the U6 Mesh, there have been many, many documented cases of the same types of failures; water ingress from the top where the LED ring is and an electrical/component failure that results in the burn through hole like pictured. Some people got lucky

Invested in UniFi APs to solve my WiFi headaches, but they persist - need help!

If the U6 Mesh is wired in, then I have seen behavior where phones suddenly drop off wifi or the wifi says "no internet" on the phone when an Ethernet cable to the AP is bad and causing intermittent behavior. It could also be misconfigured settings for your wifi network. If a cable is flaky, the wir

How to test performance of Unifi AP?

i feel you - bought a used u6 mesh once that acted the same. first run a wifi scan from the unifi controller to see if channel interference is the real issue. then factory reset it three times in a row (seriously, clears weird nvram leftovers). check the transmit power - sometimes used units get set

Anyone see a U6 mesh die like this?

i burned through 3 U6 Mesh things. They were ceiling mounted. I kept telling Ubiquiti they have a heat issue when upside down. As the one I had on my book case has been fine. But never had a burned in hole like that. They just stopped powering on and smelled of burned electronics. After the 3rd one

Is Ubiquiti still providing extended RMA for faulty U6 access points?

Good luck! They didn't do any extended warranties. A handful of people somehow got them replaced out of warranty, no rhyme or reason for it. I was not one of the lucky ones - 4 months out of warranty but only in service for a year.As you discovered, it's a known issue but Ubiquiti still has not owne

Wifi AP outdoors in direct sunlight?

Get a U7 Outdoor or Pro version. No idea how they'll last outside since they're too new. But the U6 Mesh has a design flaw that allows water to get inside and Ubiquiti knows about but they don't care. It should've been recalled or at least the warranty extended. There are 3rd party covers for the top
