I had many issues with my G5AR dropping wifi connections randomly also. Dug my old Archer AX90 router out changed the SSID name in the gateway then used the same old SSID and password in the external router and within a couple minutes everything reconnected. Cool, in that case, it sounds like you've already looked into your options. For the modem, just make sure you choose a modem that's compatible with the speed you're looking to subscribe to, or maybe even a bit higher, incase you ever want to upgrade your speed someday.
