New forced contract on ASUS router - give us all your personal information

Bad advice. Asus routers are actually amazing products, and enhancing it with merlin firmware make it the best routers you can buy, in my humble opinion. I've only ever had 2 Asus routers, one i bought in 2013 (AC68U), which lasted until they discontinued it in March 2024. And I bought the replaceme

14,000 routers are infected by malware that's highly resistant to takedowns - Ars Technica

I've had to replace the ASUS RT-AX86U Pro (AX5700) Dual Band WiFi 6 Extendable Gaming Router twice at one location for odd behavior that I couldn't get rid of after being used for a few months. It was being used strictly as an Wifi AP behind a different brand firewall but it wouldn't let any of the

Has your home network ever been hacked or compromised? What actually happened?

My Asus RT-AX86U was hacked by some sort of malware last year (seems to have been the "Kadnap botnet"), because I had AiCloud, AiDisk, DDNS, and SSH enabled. Never again will I enable that stuff — supposedly those Ai utilities have known insecurities. Never again, not worth it! I knew it was hacked

New forced contract on ASUS router - give us all your personal information

I have an RT-AX86U Pro with Merlin firmware - https://www.asuswrt-merlin.net/ - haven't gotten any type of pop up like that. Currently running 3.0.0.6.102_7_0 Merlin takes the existing firmware and gives it amazing tweaks. Super easy to flash. Been running Merlin firmware for over a decade with my oth

What is a rock-solid affordable router for an average family?

I have built a 5-node mesh system with those Asus routers (RT-68U + RT-AC66U B1 + RT-AX86U) for my house, garage and guest house, works great!. Bought them all for around 25€ per unit on Facebook Marketplace :-)

NBN upgrade has made me find out how many bad cables I have

I'm loving my Wifi6 Asus RT-AX86U. The signal is strong across the entire house (where I used to need multiple access points) and I can use all the bandwidth of my new 500/50 plan almost everywhere.

VPN and ESIM Megathread – May 2026

I bought the Asus RT-AX86U pro on JD. I installed Astrill vpn on it. Still has an applet. I’m not really tech savvy but can follow directions. It took me a couple of hours. It works well at steaming almost anything I throw at it.

What are some good WiFi 6 routers at the moment?

Asus RT-AX86U pro. I switched from an orbi system back to this single router and it has been great so far. It can either be plug n play or you can tinker with some settings to personalize it. I had an asus router in the past that I didn’t like, but I gave them another try after reading reviews on Do

Greenlight!

When I got Greenlight four years ago you had to buy your own router. I bought a Asus RT-AX86U and nearly choked on the price, But it has been worth the money. It has been very reliable, can handle the speed, has great WiFi range and has lots of really useful features that cheaper routers don’t have.
