Buy-it-for-life coffee makers can save money, reduce waste, brew better

Technivorm is one of the few companies still embracing a “repair it, don’t replace it” philosophy, too. Even if you start seeing issues after ~20 years or more, chances are you can get it repaired at a reasonable cost. Given how much coffee I drink, my refurbished Moccamaster has been one of the bes

Good coffee maker for better coffee at home?

Technivorm Moccamaster, the absolute gold standard for coffee machines and it does go on sale at Amazon regularly; you’ll pay for it but it makes drip coffee that tastes like pour over in a consistent basis and it is very easy and quick. You also want to make sure you are grinding the beans fresh in

We just bought a new house! What are your BIFL items for new homeowners?

Buy a moccamaster coffee maker. You’ll spend less in the long run (plus, makes great coffee).

FYI - the most frequently recommended coffee maker (the Technivorm Moccamaster) is deeply discounted today

Yeah. Before I got my moccamaster, I went through 6 coffee makers in 8 years. All 6 died shortly after the initial 1-year warranty period ended. My wife scoffed at me for spending over $300 on a coffee maker when I finally bought the Moccamaster. That was over 9 years ago, so it's more than paid for

What’s the most obvious case of a company ruining their own product on purpose so you’d have to keep buying replacements?

I went through a few auto drip coffee makers. I lucked out with a Cuisinart at Costco prices. My next coffee maker will be a Moccamaster. It's designed to be serviced and repaired. It's also damn near a thousand bucks.

What Stores/Brands are you watching for Black Friday sales?

I’ve been upgrading kitchen cooking items! I’ve gotten some Zwilling pro knives, cuisinart small food processor, also Le Creuset pieces. I finally got my wishlist coffee maker, as it hit a nice sale price (Moccamaster! Got it for $180). Lastly, I got two nice wood edge grain cutting boards from Sond

Buy it For Life Coffee Maker

9 years of daily use is solid for any drip machine honestly. the heating element is usually what kills them and if yours is still going strong at that pace thats impressive if youre looking for the actual BIFL move though — technivorm moccamaster. dutch made, hand assembled, copper boiling element h

Ok, so we bit the bullet... You guys were right. ☕ ☕

I wonder why other coffee makers are so inept at heating water to a certain temperature? This is something very easy to do. Not sure why Moccamaster would have mastered that where engineers at other companies simply cannot figure it out. People love their Moccamasters and I won't argue with them whe

So disappointed ...

I think the Moccamaster was one of the first brewers to provide the correct water temp / flow, at least that became popular. The reputation from this plus they do tend to last a long, long time (I have one that is still going strong after 20 years) make them worth it imo. As for taste two things. On

Is upgrading to a Moccamaster actually worth it if I’m fine with my cheap drip machine?

Honestly the biggest factor is what is your financial situation like? If dropping $300 is going to cause stress in other aspects of your life, then a Moccamaster is probably not worth getting. If you are in a comfortable spot financially, you’ll be happy dropping the money even just to see the machi
