Dream router 7 equivalent that maybe is less overkill for me?
I have had my UDR7 for about 8 months now. It replaced a Synology RT2600ac. I was going to just upgrade to a RT6600ac and stay with what had worked well. Glad I didn't. The UDR7 is so much more. It is like the big iron stuff I use to use at work only pared down for home use. I love it. VLANs firewal

I just can't contain my excitement
Chiming in here to say: It should be possible to use your own equipment, but I don't know that you'll get any support from them on the matter. I'm currently using the modem/router they provide as it was free and meets my needs, but a couple of months ago the first modem/router they gave me crapped o

In light of the government's warning about TP-Link routers being compromised and all the other negative news about them, would use of a VPN or hardware firewall like Firewalla or Ubiquity do any good?
Try Synology RT2600ac or RT6600ax Router and add an external NVMe SSD to run their Threat Prevention App Add-on (Suricata IPS Based). Great router and firewall and IPS for the money and easy to manage. Gets daily updates for security. https://www.synology.com/en-us/products/compare/routers

Recommendation for Router and AP setup
I’m using a Synology rt6600ax with 3 mr2200ac and 1 rt2600ac (discontinued) mesh points. We have an old house with plaster walls and WiFi was a nightmare - this setup solved our problems. The rt2600ac and 2 mr220ac are setup with wired backhaul to the main Synology 6600ax router, with one mr2200 run

Infuse 8.2! This update introduces multi-user profiles on Apple TV, support for streaming directly from iCloud Drive, Metacritic ratings, enhanced AI video upscaling, deep link functionality, and a variety of other improvements.
I currently use a Synology MR2200ac; it’s small, efficient and has a good OS onboard. Synology also does a an RT2600ac, it’s cheaper as it’s dual band but has an SD card slot you can use for threat prevention data on the network. It takes a bit of learning but it’s straight forward enough to get wor

Xfinity upload speeds in Naperville?
Synology setup, their older devices 2x RT2600ac and MR2200, good enough for home networking. Faster than needed. The main RT2600ac can be setup to use two providers and switch as needed (I run load balance 60:40 so it splits bandwidth between the two networks).

How to make sure a used Synology RT2600AC router is safe?
Do the full SRM reinstall rather than just a reset. On the RT2600ac, hold the Reset button about 10 seconds until the second beep to enter "Mode 2", then use Synology Web Assistant to reinstall SRM and set it up offline. Create a new admin username, delete the default "admin", and only then plug in

Newbie to Fiber Internet— what to expect?
I've been out of the 'consumer' router market for over a decade, last recommendation I was making to people was the Synology because the software package was above and beyond anything any other vendor was doing. You could use it to run a VPN, local file sharing, all sorts of packages thanks to Synol

TP-Link routers could be banned in the US over national security concerns | TP-Link has around 65% of the US market for routers
I bought a Synology RT2600AC almost seven years ago and it's been mostly drama free the entire time. There was one default setting that was screwing up my Xfinity Internet service, but otherwise it's been secure, stable and has stayed up to date.
