Synology Reverses Policy Banning Third-Party HDDs After NAS sales plummet

wont be enough, the sales are not only plummeting because of the HDD debacle but also because their new systems simply suck, they are still using old CPUs without an iGPU so no hardware transcoding which is a huge downgrade to the previous models. the best Synology model a home user can buy is a use

Is it worth it to migrate from Synology photos to Immich?

I used Synology Photos on my DS918+ NAS for multiple years, and switched to Immich about 1 year go. It's a much better platform, the web and the mobile apps. Synology Photos, by comparison, it's more basic and less flexible, and like all the other apps from Synology its development is stale. I like

Had no idea how small the Ugreen UPS was. 🤯

Yeah agree depending could be quite different run times.. But would be nice if they put up a curve on load, I mean I doubt the nas is going to draw 120W if its not really doing anything, etc. So from my napkin math should be able to get at least 20 minutes out of it I would think.. Not exactly sure

Server & Nas. To split or not to split

It depends on your goals. If you value the simplicity of a single device that does "everything", the ease of cable management, fast response times between services, etc, stay with one box. If you value the freedom to do "whatever you like, regardless of vendor", splitting them up might be a good ide

VINIPLAY - Self hosted IPTV webplayer

What hardware are you self hosting on ? I deployed in a container on my Synology NAS DS918+. It cannot play any stream, no matter what options I choose in the settings. Just a bunch of ffmpeg errors.

What did Synology users learn moving to Ugreen?

I have a Synology DS918+ and switched to two Ugreen DXP6800 Pros. Will never go back to Synology. I never even booted into the ugreen OS. I took the stock SSD out and replaced it with a 1TB Inland SSD and booted up Unraid. I think I'm in the minority but I hated the Synology software. The Unraid see

Explain your decision on new upcoming UgreenNASync kickstarter options

Yes I'm aware of that. Is the only thing that sucks for me but I'm having to go with this regardless as I'm sick of Synology new system hard drive lock. I was perfectly happy with them untill then.. But I'm sure people in this community will help me... I don't wanna do anything fancy just store data

HW recommendation for truenas

The r/synology DS918+ should still be receiving updates. DSM 7.2.2-72806-8 is the current “stable” version, and DSM 7.3.2-86009-3 the current “early adopter” version, with both patch versions having been released as recently as March 17th this year. If you want DSM 7.3, you need to install the updat

Sonarr folder setup on Diskstation DSM

If you have the hardware for it, consider using docker and having a media stack set up for it. It's not super complicated and maintenance is quite simple for updating the containers. DSM network shares can be mounted inside containers with proper permissions with NFS. For the downloads (and media st
