Migrating from Synology: What would I probably be missing from DSM?
I switched from a DS1522+ to a Ugreen 4800plus running Unraid, and I can’t say I miss anything. Once you get past the small learning curve, it’s perfectly fine. Recommendations welcome for a NAS in a 10" rack
i was in this same spot last year. what clicked for me was building around a SilverStone DS380B - it's 8-bay hotswap in a compact case that fits nicely on a shelf or even a 10" rack with adapters. got the DIY tinkering without the full sheet metal headache. if you lean pre-built though the Synology

advice on choosing a NAS for professional photography
Chiming in because I own a DXP6800 Pro. And still use a Synology DS1522+ to back it up. Just because it was my NAS until this summer. See r/Synology for my experience with that unit, which I bought in June 2024 to replace a DS418play that had “backplane issues”. And I have around 8TB of family photo
