Thoughts on the fx5? Are you guys gonna get one?
It’s all quality of life improvements at the end of the day. I would assume all of us here are trying to tell a good story. You can tell an amazing story with a camera that came out five or even 10 years ago. The FX5’s image doesn’t automatically tell a better story. The RAW recording doesn’t automa

What are the best filmmaking cameras for beginners?
I just got asked the same question an hour ago by an intern who's heading to Film School in the fall. I recommended a Sony Fx 30 w/ Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8. I put together a whole kit for him HERE (w/ amazon links because that's where he wanted to shop).

Heavily leaning towards an FX2 right now. Bad idea?
So as someone who’s owned the A7iii, A7iv & Fx30; as well as I currently own the A7S iii, Fx3 & I just picked up the Fx2 I would say the Fx2 is a really good starter. It’s essentially an A7iv or A7C ii in a cinema line body. Truthfully I don’t shoot 4k 120 often and I do a lot of commercial and docu

Sony fx30 overkill for (almost) first camera?
My fx30 was my first proper camera and it definitely was way more camera than I needed, but I grew into it. I knew it was the camera I wanted, so I adapted to it, but it took about a year’s worth of study and practice with concepts like exposure, bit rate, frame rate, shutter angle, color grade/s-lo

Looking to expand my Sony set up with a second, and eventually third camera.
For multicam, single operator work I’d strongly recommend sticking with cameras with similar if not identical interfaces to reduce the odds of operator error. So fx3/fx30 makes sense. Another tidbit is check out the Sony Monitor & Control app. It allows you to “monitor and control” up to four Sony c

Advice for a first time buyer?
IMO buy used. You don’t have to spend $2k to get started. Go on MPB, KEH, or Adorama and find something in your price range. Ideally pick up a quality non-kit lens (even a nifty-50 would be better than a kit lens imo), and get to learning. If you’re trying to do primarily video you’ll eventually wan

FX30 una Cámara Legendaria.
Speaking from my own experience, I can tell you that the Sony FX30 is absolutely worth it in 2026—and rest assured, it will remain worth it for a very, very long time to come. To address the commentary currently being generated regarding the feature sets of cameras from other manufacturers—such as P

What competitors colour sciences/log profiles integrate well with Slog3?
Don't know exactly if any other brands necessarily "match well" with Slog 3, but if i could make a recommendation I would tell you to consider investing in a Color Chart such as those from X-Rite or Datacolor. I bought a Datacolor SpyderCheckr a couple of years ago and it's AMAZING for getting a goo

Is the upgrade from fx30 to fx3 worth it?
How important low-light shooting is for your work? I used the FX30 for about 3 years and recently switched to the FX2. If you’re considering upgrading, one benefit I didn’t expect was the added flexibility. I mostly shoot travel/documentary-style work, so I didn’t really need full frame or the cooli

Is the upgrade from fx30 to fx3 worth it?
Investing in a lens will give you more than buying the FX3. A solid lens on the FX30 will give you amazzzzzingggggggg image. The FX3 is a champ In low light but unless you’re literally shooting a cactus in the desert you typically don’t need to worry about it. There are plenty of other full frame le
