Bought my first Nikon after being 8 years on Sony [impressions below]
I moved to a Zf to shoot for personal trips alongside my work A9ii’s. Once I saw how snappy that camera was in comparison (and the price difference) I jumped ship and sold my Sony gear. I’ve been working with the Z9’s for an over a year and absolutely love them.

A Sony a7iii would be a great camera to start on. Pair it with a 24-70 2.8 and you'll be set for CrossFit classes and local throw downs. You'll need a longer lens for bigger comps because you won't be on the floor unless you get media credentials, but the 24-70 is more than enough for everything els

If fast action is a priority for you, the Sony a7 V or even an used Sony a9 would be a better option. If you don't need all the features of the a7 V, an used a9 would be the best value body. The a7 IV was designed to be an all-rounder while the a9 was designed specifically for sports/action/wildlife

Anyone moved from a Sony A9 to a Nikon z5ii or ZF?
I have used the A9/A9II some as rentals. Personally I don't think the Z5II will be a much of an upgrade to your A9. The Z5II's electronic shutter will be to slow for hummingbirds and any wing movement. You would need to shoot with the mechanical shutter at 11fps to not have the "rolling shutter" eff

Camera for hockey and life
The most common mistake camera buyers make is to spend more than 75% of their budget on the camera body and then compromise on lenses. If your lens only opens up to f4 either you go to a slower shutter speed which is worse at freezing motion or you crank the ISO which lowers image quality. It is wor

Best camera for a safari?
Here is the bad news: You need a bigger budget. What is your Safari total budget before photography gear. I think a more realistic budget would be $2,000 for a camera body, about the same for lenses. You will need a telephoto lens that will cover from 200 to 500mm and getting to 600mm would be even

Camera advice: Fujifilm XH2 vs Nikon D5 for motorsport?
Fuji are known for having not that great AF-C I would rather look at either 2nd hand mirorless with stacked sensor (stacked sensor allows for more frequent AF sampling which is massive advantage when target is changing speed, and faster fps) Sony a9 / a9ii (a9 would be cheapest allowing to spend mor

Do you shoot in silent mode? My sensor is too slow for that.
You actually prevented me from upgrading to Sony, thanks! I got the R8 and never noticed rolling shutter issues even though I exclusively shot in electronic shutter mode. I liked the lens choice/price but the Sony bodies are really expensive and got low frame rates unless of course i pay 5x for A9ii

If your sons play in well lit rinks then the f4 would be fine. That said, I'd say half the barns I've ever played in / shot pictures in have god awful lighting, so you're making a gamble on your equipment vs the facilities that they're going to be playing in. I don't know anything about Canon gear,

Next purchase: more reach or full frame?
My only issue with the getting the lens first, is that with a crop sensor, the 100-500 may be too much reach to cover the action easily. So I would go with the 100-400 recommendation there. I suggested the a9/a9ii because of the stacked sensor, blackout free EVF, and the still awesome autofocus capa
