Sony Cameras and Lenses Get Another Price Hike in the US

Yeah I hope the a7 iii doesn't jump up in price that much on the used market by November/December. I was really hoping to pick one up by then

Micro Four Thirds is "just getting killed" - Peter Jeune, on Petapixel Podcast 12/06/2025

I actually listened to that, and I think the interview is really thought-provoking. Sony has "just done such a good job at telling the full-frame story" It’s true—Sony really pioneered the push to democratize full-frame with the A7 III. They were so good at convincing the general audience that full-

Second hand A7iii - Is it worth it to pay more for less shutter count?

You can get a new A7 iii for around 1100. I wouldn't consider a second-hand one at those prices.

Question: is the OM-1 ii worth it over the OM-1 if I don't shoot wildlife/birds?

Sony is still selling the a7 iii. An 8 year old model. There's also a reason why stores and manufacturers are so eager to offer a discount, buying your old phone nowadays to desperately try and get you to upgrade.

Sigma 17-40 f/1.8 for Canon R7?

Agree with your post and your conclusions, even though a Sony a7iii is older than the R7 (worse AF, slower, no 4k60) but still more expensive. At the end of the day you get similar performance for similar prices; but then you might want to add faster primes, wider angles -> FF; or rather tele, macro

Sigma 17-40 f/1.8 for Canon R7?

Yeah the a7iii isn't the ideal Sony budget camera, but the 28-75 G2 is cheaper on Sony right now, and it's better to have two options than one. I think the biggest point is, if you think you might want the 17-40, it's worth taking a break and making sure you're making the best choice, because it is

Should I upgrade and if so what do you recommend?

Sony A7 iii is old tech. You should try get A9 for sport. If you want A7 line should go for A7 v for the latest tech.

Switch to Sony or stay with Canon?

You can use the same lenses except 18-35, this one is aps-c. Official canon adapters give no performance loss, actually lenses will get second breath with better signal coming to them. This way, you can even get R6 mk3 for this budget and a 24-70. Sony is overhyped piece of shit tbh. People using th
