Personally, I still use the Sennheiser HD 410's I bought in 1983. However, my 410's use foam ear pads, so there can be some bleed over when using them in the studio. Given that, if I were to recommend a set of headphones for recording and general playing, it would be the Sennheiser 280. Decent price

Sennheiser HD 280 Pro is basically the only thing I've ever liked. I had the vic firth ones, but they just don't sound high quality. For buds, I use Etymotic ER3SE. Both have a lot of attenuation. I'm a big fan of Sennheiser headphones. When it comes to isolation, it doesn't get pickier than in a recording studio. Those mikes can be pretty sensitive and any leakage is going to come back to the engineer. That's why they ALWAYS use over-ear headphones. While the website recommends HD 490 Pro's,
