How to go about upgrading?
I’ve owned the r10 in 2024 and upgraded to sell.Parts consisted of Thermaltake toughfan pro replacing the AIO exhaust fan with no idle static pressure and poor performance at high rpm, I’d use arctic p12 1800rpm now. Better gpu gtx 1080 but I’d get used RTX 2070 or better now. SSD used a 1tb Samsung

SSD lost performance after upgrade.
UPDATE: I was running all the tests on battery. HWinfo was showing a current pcie with x4 and speed 5 GT/s. ChatGPT confirmed that it was being downgraded to PCIe gen2 instead of gen3. When I plugged it to AC and retested with CDM it doubled the numbers and was better than the PM981. But still tells

Need Affordable Upgrade
I wanted a rig to last me years from owning an am4 rig with 5800x. Generally I prefer picking and choosing used components as it’s massively cheaper like Samsung pm981 it’s. High endurance fast SSD vs new crucial and kioxia which aren’t the best quality and the Samsung 990 series which run too hot.

I want to resurrect my near-mint X280. It needs a new battery, CMOS battery and SSD (90% health). What’s the fastest SSD I can put in? 512GB is more than enough, but I’d prefer it to be as fast as possible.
Yes. but PCI-e 4 is fully backwards compatible. If anything, fast PCI-e 4.0 SSDs like the aforementioned Samsung 990Pro saturate the bus in every scenario. PCI-e 3.0 x4 has a maximum realistic throughput of somewhere between 3500-3700 Gb/s. which is easily surpassed by modern SSDs. Samsung 990 Pro r

Upgrade GPU or start over
You’ve got a good power supply and ‘upgradable’ motherboard that could take a coffee lake i7 8700 given some surgery. There’s also chance that you could use mini pcie to nvme adapter to get nvme working on this board. It’s only a gigabyte/s vs sata speeds but a 1tb Samsung pm981 would be much snappe

BIOS/UEFI password-protected - how good or bad is that?
I picked it up yesterday and turned out that it had Windows installed. Seems to work fine for now and I’m thinking to keep it. The battery does say it’s over 99%. Though I might not upgrade the RAM (DDR4-3200), looks like they go for over $100 ! I might have an extra SSD at home in case I want to ge

Recommendations please - Lenovo Thinkpad Touchscreen with durability - Runs MacOS Sequoia
I have MacOS on T580 (i5-8350U, 16GB DDR4, 512GB Samsung PM981) and on T480 (i5-7300U, 16GB DDR4, 512GB Samsung PM981), on both works great even Tahoe, on T480 it sometimes lags a bit, but it's OK, EFI made with OPcore simplify (despite what are they saying here it's great, you need 5 minutes and yo
