What espresso machine did you start on, and would you recommend it to a beginner today?
Rancilio Silvia. Would not recommend. Finicky as stock, either need to faff around with temp surfing or go extra $200 for PID and whatnot. Steam wand o-ring gave up within a year, became rusty on the "stainless steel" base in 5 years despite me doing all the maintenance described in the manual. Ther

Gaggimate help
Yes!! I bought a Silvia back in 2003/4. This was pre YouTube and I quickly tired of the temp surfing. I moved to Chemex and Aeropress. Miss Silvia languished and I sold her after a few years. I recently dove back into espresso with a Flair press and hand grinder, then quickly bought another Rancilio

Delonghi Dedica or Gaggia Style? Ultra budget machine buying [€150-200]
not really. very rarely if i want to pull a shot straight after steaming milk sometimes. but it’s not really been an issue. i don’t really have to try much. for some reason it is quite forgiving. for example when i had rancilio silvia, it moved between like 85 celsius and 100 celsius and really over

Upgrade recommendations from Breville Oracle Touch [$2000]
thats very important what you said. light roasts can be super hard to pull off. Or I just suck. But i could never pull a good shot of tim wendelboe coffee with a rancilio silvia and rancilio rocky grinder. It was just so astringent and bitter and sour (bad sour) at the same time. So i drank medium a

I'm about to enter your world.
If getting a portafilter, keep in mind the Silvia does not have a standard E61 group head. Specific Silvia PFs fit only. Made that mistake. Got the Rancilio bottomless one in the end because the other Rancilio didn't fit (that was for E61, the lips are bigger and hence won't fit). You need at the mi

Gaggia Pro vs Rancilio Silvia? [$500]
I'd check if the Gaggia has aluminium boiler or the teflon coated version, if you don't know about, check the boiler gate issue. If it's aluminium, I'd choose a Gaggia. I have both by the way. This Rancilio Silvia is a V1, probably around 20 years old. If not refurbished, it has the boiler with heat

[$5,000USD] Debating between ECM Synchronika and LM Linea Micra
I bought a Synchronika about three months ago, and went to a La Marzocco open house over the weekend, so I've got a fairly fresh opinion. I got to play with the linea Micra, mini and a gs3. The Micra is small in person. Much smaller than I expected. If you have a small kitchen, maybe that's an advan

Gaggia Classic E24 v Lelit Anna [$1500 AUD setup]
Hi there,So your budget is like €911? (Just so I have a reference 😁).You have so many good options… insane. So, do you really need the machine new? I would only buy the grinder new 😁About those grinders you mentioned, I can't say much, but I have the Eureka Mignon Zero 55s and I love it. (Some offers

Thinking about a GaggiMate Pro build for my Silvia (EU 230V). Looking for insights on thermal mass vs. Gaggia/Gaggiuino setups.
I can live with 1g extra espresso ahahahahahawell seems good: gaggimate seem less refined than gaggiuino, but i doubt the gaggia is a better machine. Some people on the gaggiuno discord make it to be like that gaggia will be a temp stability powerhouse, while instead silvia sucks.Living in Italy i ha
