Any point of buying a Silvia if Profitec Go is priced almost the same?
Profitec GO is basically the updated Silvia Rancilio should have made years ago

[Free] 20 year old Silva on FB Marketplace with bad boiler gasket and broken screw. Is it worth the effort to fix?
Espresso machine tech here. Don't do that. Buy OEM gaskets https://www.espressoparts.com/products/rancilio-silvia-boiler-gasket https://www.espressoparts.com/products/rancilio-silvia-heating-element-gasket The corroded screws mean you'll need to drill out the busted screws to get the boiler apart. Ti screen screw
Ah, naturally, coffee only reaches its most nuanced, existential depths when brewed on a Rancilio Silvia with the reassuring presence of a titanium screen screw. Without it, you're not crafting espresso, you're just playing at it. /s

What espresso machine did you start on, and would you recommend it to a beginner today?
Old Rancilio Silvia. Tough question really. It was a good test of “do you really want to make espresso at home?” but it needed several pieces replaced in short order and I would think there are more beginner friendly machines on the market.

Need buying advice for Rancilio Silvia [250€]
That looks like a Silvia V1, so that seems really expensive to me, if it isn’t because you want that specific model. Personally I’d skip it, unless you can fix any issues with it yourself and you’re ready to sink the money into it.

Rancilio Silvia. Would not recommend. Finicky as stock, either need to faff around with temp surfing or go extra $200 for PID and whatnot. Steam wand o-ring gave up within a year, became rusty on the "stainless steel" base in 5 years despite me doing all the maintenance described in the manual. Ther

Stock Portafilter
I just started using a Silvia a week ago and ran into the same thing. The stock baskets are sloped, so you can only tamp so deep, not deep enough even for a .8mm screen. I have an ICM competition basket that fits the Rancilio bottomless portafilter. It has straight sides and can get the screens in o

Ya I get it. I used to have a rancilio Silvia. Sold it back when secondary market was p cheap for espresso bc I got an e61 la scala butterfly bc I wanted to get into more steamed drinks. Now every day I regret it bc lol. Used Silvias are a few hundred more used now, and I really only want straight e

I'm about to enter your world.
If getting a portafilter, keep in mind the Silvia does not have a standard E61 group head. Specific Silvia PFs fit only. Made that mistake. Got the Rancilio bottomless one in the end because the other Rancilio didn't fit (that was for E61, the lips are bigger and hence won't fit). You need at the mi
