Looking for recommendation - Switching from Synology

you have not stated what Synology you have. DS1821+, a Rack Station ? You do know that you can now use non Synology drives with Synology systems - they changed the rules recently. You have not stated the total amount of storage you need. You have not stated how many computers are going to use this Q

NAS options for small workgroup

you have not said how many editors. You have not said how much total storage you need. So I will make something up - if you have four editors - you get a QNAP TVS-h874. It's $2200 you run the operating system (ZFS, or QuTs) with two 500 Gig Samsung EVO 980 - they are $70 each. IF you put in eight ma

Looking for Video Production NAS Suggestions

replies below - I currently handle our organization’s video production. We create somewhere around 3-4TB of storage per year. Here’s what I was considering as possible solutions. REPLY - 3 - 4 TB a year ? Are you shooting with Go Pro's ? A typical professional video production is 2 - 4 TB per shoot.

Which QNAP System should I buy as Videographer/Editor/Colourist?

you don't edit h.264 - you transcode this to a normal editing codec using things like Adobe Media Encoder, EditReady, etc. Resolve will also let you transcode h.264 - or you get stuttering playback. If you are never going to have 2 or more users, you can get away with a 6 drive NAS, but if you are g

How best to connect multiple Qnap NAS? 1 TVS-h874x and 2 DL-1600S.

I don't have a beef with the TVS-h874. For a professional QNAP model - it is low end entry model, that is designed for desktop use. If you plan on getting more and more and more storage, then you purchase an Enterprise QNAP (this would be the same analogy for a Synology product). If your business is

QNAP NAS with full Plex Hardware Transcoding

yes - I have installed two TS-1655 systems. With a TS-1655, you still have to add a 10G card, RAM (4G ain't enough) and the 12 drives and 2 SSD's. So it's still not "cheap". I am not a fan of the ATOM Intel CPU, but it works, and it's sure a hell of a lot better than the Annapurna CPU's. I recently

NAS for Small Editing Team with a quirk?

I wasn't sure if this was a QNAP forum, or the editors forum, when I got this notification. No matter what I say - I wind up insulting someone - perhaps I will wind up insulting you. This is the editors forum. It is for professional editors. Professional editors are not using iPhones and GoPro camer

QNAP NAS with full Plex Hardware Transcoding

Bob, Thanks! I enjoy your posts a lot. I just read a very long thread from you on the QNAP board. Sorry I conflated my transcoding comments. That is strictly for viewing 4k MP4 or HD videos usually on the local LAN via a media player or perhaps offsite via plex. If on local LAN using a media player

Advice sought: what's best in Qnap 8-12 bay and sweet spot in 20tb+ drives in price/TB?

the TS-832PX-4G is the worst QNAP. What is important to you - price or performance ? You can't have both. You want a great 8 drive NAS from QNAP ? TVS-h874. $2200. Where are earth are you seeing 20TB drives for $250 each. Have you done a google search recently. You show me 20 TB drives that are new

UNAS Pro + Video Editing?

if you want a 6 drive system - buy a QNAP TVS-h674. Want an 8 drive system - buy a TVS-h874 or Synology DS1825+, DS1823xs+. Want Ubiuqiti only - then wait. Want to only spend $499 - $799 - then I can't help you. I know exactly how much money professional video editors make, and spending the money to
