I don't really follow the self built servers but I know the cost of my nas was $1100 plus over 1k in drives. Qnap ts-873a 4x 14tb seagate ironwolf pro and a Qnap 2.5g 8 port switch. You can get a Ugreen 4 bay for less but the drives these days are gonna be hideously priced. I buy from seagate direct

I’ve landed on NAS instead of a DAS because a lot of traveling frequently and multiple users (4-6) etc. The users are me wife and kids mostly. Perhaps a friend or two but that’s it.
