New firmwares for S5m2(x), S9 dropped

Debatable They vastly degraded the s5iix image quality with aggressive sharpening and NR post launch (firmware which can't be reversed) and later completely removed streaming functions which were heavily marketed and users specifically paid for with the s5iix over the s5ii Also every other update br

Is there any glaring reason NOT to use a Lumix S5ii for hobbyist filmmaking?

As a filmmaker (not videographer) the last reason you should choosing a camera for is Autofocus. Just keep practicing manual, you'll get there. Mistakes when focusing manually look far nicer (even 'cinematic') than with AF which is jarring. How can you be sure the AF on the S5ii is all its chalked u

BMCC6k

I own the S5II (since February) and the Pocket 6K Gen 1 (since it came out a few years ago) + some Contax Zeiss lenses, Sigma 18-35, Helios 44M, Isco 1.8x Anamorphic Projector Lens and Sigma 24 1.4 Art Full frame for the S5II. I got the S5II as on paper it looked like an amazing hybrid camera, amazi

Is the Blackmagic 6k Full Frame worth it?

It’s 500% worth it. For me, at least. I have the Pocket 6k gen 1 since it came out years ago. The Lumix s5ii since February this year. When I got the Lumix, I wanted a photo camera that can riv the blackmagic on video. I knew I wouldn’t get quite the same image quality out of it, but i thought it’s

Flash for outdoor events: where should I start?

Godox and the Panasonic L-mount bodies may not be a great choice, like it is for everybody else: https://www.reddit.com/r/Lumix/comments/1egjpzb/godox_and_s5iix_is_a_bad_pairing/ There's apparently a lag on firing, and issues with TTL accuracy, as well as banding issues with HSS. Godox might work if you'r

RECOMMENDATION

Panasonic lumix s5. I started with this one and then just recently upgraded to the s5II. One thing to note with the original s5 is that focus breathing/auto focus is not the best, if that matters for you.

Trade offs moving from the A7iv to the s5ii?

the two things i wish i had known are that lumix has a big issue with flash reliability and that the s5ii does not support tethering with capture one. their hot shoe protocols are dated and godox and profoto flash triggers both often have issues. profoto has no ttl enabled flashes or strobe triggers

I changed the firmware on my Panasonic S5 MARK II from 3.4, which is a mistake. What is the solution?

I have the S5iix 2.4 MC21 attached and have the same halo effect unfortunately. I can't use EF lenses on the picture mode anymore except the sigma art EF lenses. I hope Panasonic comes up with a new update soon. or maybe sigma releases a new firmware for the MC21 which IMO is unlikely. because lates

Lumix S5II HSS issue: i-T32 triggers Strobos 60 but fails with Reporter 360/180 (via USB receivers). Upgrade to X3-O or X2T-O?

Will the new Godox X3-O (Xnano) be compatible with these older XTR-16 USB receivers for HSS on the S5II? Very hard to say. The FTR16 (older 433 MHz version of those receivers) only did HSS with the Cells II transmitters for Canon (and supposedly Nikon but the Nikon version never appeared before the

I don't know what lens would suit the Lumix S9. What kind of camera is the S9 even for?

Lumix's genuine prime lenses are too big and heavy for me, and I don't really want to put them on my S9, which lacks a viewfinder. If it were around the size of the RF50mm f/1.8, it would be fine, but it's much bigger, so if I were to use one, I'd probably use my S5II...
