So who's buying an OM-5 II and why? (Surprise: Me?)

I had just placed my preorder yesterday for the new sand beige version, I think it looks great. I’m actually coming over from the Fujifilm system and the X-S10. I’ve been eyeing OM system for a while now, super intrigued by its compact form factor, IPX rated weather sealing, and computational featur

Yeah I can see why it seems like we’ve had 3 cameras that are the same that have slowly chipped away at what was needed. I don’t think that’s especially fair when looking at the E-M5.3 and the OM-5. Beginner: OM-5 I/II, GX9 or Fuji?

I can't speak to the OM-5i but I've owned the EM-5iii and the OM-5ii. It is a meaningful upgrade in all respects except one major downgrade. The menu system is miles better, and for a beginner another major improvement is Oi.Share and how the camera works with it. The EM-5iii was always super flaky

Beginner: How should I split my budget between camera body and lenses to be future-proof?

Given your use case (beginner, not doing extensive birds/wildlife, no macro) you probably don't need a ton of bells and whistles, and you would benefit from the more modern UI/UX of the OM systems cameras. Given that, you can probably "get away" with a lower tiered, newer camera like the OM5i/ii. Lo

Beginner: How should I split my budget between camera body and lenses to be future-proof?

Do not try to "future-proof" this decision. That makes it harder because we don't know the future. The used camera market is very robust. So if you need something different next year, it is easy to sell what you have and get the other thing. Make the best decision for what you need today, and you wi
