Has anyone tried setting up eGPU with halo strix through OCuLink?
It may be ignorance on my part, but with my Minisforum MS-S1 max 128GB, which I believe i the same thing as Strixhalo, I found that I cannot really use CUDA productively with my RTX5070ti 16GB on eGPU and USB4. On windows11, i found if I have a model that is larger than 16GB, it spillover to ram, at

S1 Max – Rear USB4 v2 / Thunderbolt 5 ports not working
Take note that I ask an LLM to compose this, but all is on point. 💥 MS-S1 Max/Strix Halo eGPU Users: I Found the Fix! 💥 For everyone struggling with getting an eGPU to reliably connect (especially via hotplug) to the Minisforum MS-S1 Max' rear ports on Linux, I've confirmed the absolute core workaro

So does the MS-S1 MAX work with OCuLink eGPU?
MS-S1 MAX with Oculink 4x pci card + DEG1 Oculink + RTX5080 tested.I managed to get it working (Linux and Windows see both the integrated gpu AND the RTX5080). Really hard to make it work. It requires plugging the Oculink cable at some brief moment after the S1 MAX has booted, but not too long. It i

S1 Max – Rear USB4 v2 / Thunderbolt 5 ports not working
I’m seeing the exact same issue on my MS-S1 Max. The rear Thunderbolt port doesn’t work with my Aoostar AG02 TB dock, while the front Thunderbolt/USB-C port works just fine. I’m hoping this is just a BIOS or firmware quirk rather than a dead controller. We should push MINISFORUM to look into it and

Black Friday EU shop shipments
I paid $4200 for the Minisforum MS-S1 Max on 22 Nov 2025 (Australian time) when their website said it was shipping late November. I was forced to download an app called Shopify and create an account just to view my tracking information. By 3 Dec the unit still hadn't shipped. The hype was dying with

Pictures of the FNPBA 25G + NVMe adapter
Oh! I've been looking for this configuration (NVME + SFP+) for ages for my MS-S1 MAX, I should have looked at Minisforum's own cards first! I really hope it doesn't require bifurcation as it's not supported on the MS-S1. edit aww crap - Note1When the card is inserted into an AMD-based computer, the

Minisforum MS-S1 MAX Purchase & Upgrade Possibility
potentially but I doubt the 256gb, you will be forced in 2R, your stick are unlikely to maintain the 8000MT/s. On the MS-S1 max, ram is still soldered so no realistic change there. And if you source another integrator for the 395+ then yeah stick to their bios, minisforum bios have no extra sprinkles

Should I stop looking for a 14" laptop with dGPU and switch to a traditional 14" laptop + eGPU combo instead?
There's pros and cons to all these setups but if you're looking for a powerhouse combo I would try to find a strix halo with 64-128gb ram and usb 4v2 or thunderbolt 5 connectivity. I'm not sure there are many options like this available yet and the ones that are available aren't perfect like the min

Windows boot manager always gets the first boot priority
Same problem with the BIOS on my Minisforum MS-S1 Max. I have to intercept and choose my linux boot loader every time. It's super annoying.
