Ex-Windows chief calls MacBook Neo "a paradigm shifting computer" — reflects on Surface failure and Windows on Arm while lamenting "we were early, but not wrong"
The gap here is that Apple forcibly moved everybody over to ARM. Windows never even tried, because one of their major selling point has always been extensive backwards compatibility spanning decades. The Neo "works" because Macbook users were already forced to upgrade or die. The Surface RT didn't b

MKBHD's video about the Mac Neo feels like he purposely didnt mention Surface laptops. Instead used
I watched that video earlier tonight. I think that video was more than fair. He brought up lots of really great points and literally explained why no Windows PC manufactured laptop is close. That includes Microsoft. Apple makes their silicon, Microsoft doesn't. Microsoft allows Windows to be modifie

Seeking advice on Surface laptop 7 for my Computer Science study
some post about ARM windows being bad with it's app incompability Windows on ARM's app compatibility is great. I personally have no issues, and I use Visual Studio and Webstorm on my Surface Laptop 7. That said, compatibility is not 100%. You may come across something you need that doesn't work (I h

Linus Tech Tips - I Should Have Invested MORE in Framework April 21, 2026 at 11:00AM
It’s wild how much more and more I am starting to consider a MacBook for my next Laptop. Have a Surface Laptop and a few weeks ago rage formatted the drive and installed Mint. Think it was another one of those full screen Office 365 ads Windows chucks out from time to time Mints been great in terms

Microsoft is shutting down its flagship retail storefront in the UK
That's sad. The consumer side of Microsoft has suffered in the past 5 years. Products aren't exciting anymore. My beloved Surface Laptop 4 got stolen, so I bought a Surface Laptop 7. The SL7 got stolen in about a month after my SL4. I didn't want to spend money on a laptop that could disappear again

Is an ARM Surface Laptop wise to buy in 2025 (to be used with a ThinkPad Gen2 dock)
I recently bought the 15” Surface Copilot+ Laptop with the Snapdragon Elite processor to test it out after having a brief experience setting up one for a client. The battery life and speed are much better than a typical Inter i7 laptop. I’ve run into a couple of issues with Adobe Acrobat and remote

New iPhone With Touch ID Coming This Year
I feel cheated. It worked great for 6 years with a 1st gen surface laptop. Then I upgraded to the 7th gen and not long after they did this. https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/windows-11/windows-hello-face-unlock-no-longer-works-in-the-dark-and-microsoft-says-its-not-a-bug

Thinking of grabbing Costco $750 Surface Copilot+ laptop — good for everyday personal use?
My two cents. Don't buy into the windows arm ecosystem yet. Part of the reason that computer is so cheap (just a guess) other than it being Costco, is because of the pain of using windows' translation layer. A lot of folks have been leaning away from them since they came out a little bit ago. Qualco

Microsoft prepares display upgrades and two stage launch for new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop
They seem like they've all but given up on any creative applications for the Surface line. No Surface Studios, laptop or otherwise. No books. The Slim Pen 2 looks like a thermometer, and draws about as bad as one. Even the settings for stylus tweaking have been stripped back in Windows. A Movink 14

Ex-Windows chief Steven Sinofsky calls MacBook Neo "a paradigm shifting computer" — reflects on Surface failure and Windows on Arm while lamenting "we were early, but not wrong"
MS went all-in on tablets too soon, too. They went all-in on portables (Windows CE). Too soon. Surface, ARM... They are usually exactly right about where things will go, and they could be the first success... If the experience wasn't crap every time. I had an HP palmtop. I usually got it to work for
