Can we consider this a laptop now?
What are the specs? I'm still feelin' more of a tablet gadget vibe, with an attachable keyboard accessory. Surface Sumo, as compared to the svelte surface pro, and the downright underfed surface go. Laptop, to me, means "Clamshell body'.

Surface Go 2 Linux
I got a secondhand GO 2 a few months back, and it's been fine (much better than the Go 3 I have, which has a bunch of annoying glitches that haven't been resolved over the few years I've had it). To answer your questions: I nuked Windows immediately after verifying the system started up and worked,

Are new Thinkpads worth it?
I have two chipped top teeth - and one of those stories involves a convertable tablet, and a slightly unsteady grip. There are few things more horrifying than battering ones self in the jaw with an xp era HP tablet convertable thingee that was being held aloft to watch......something or other, while

surface go
It's not exactly what I would have done, but you can't go wrong switching to Linux on any device if your aim is to tinker and whatnot. I've not done this specifically, but the first concern that jumps to my mind is questionable support for things like the touchscreen. You'd likely need the linux-sur

What is gnome mobile and what is it used for and does it work like desktop gnome?
Phosh is based on Gnome but is kind of a forked project that has taken a life of its own. Gnome mobile is actually Gnome, it’s just a set of patches and configurations on top of it to make it more mobile friendly. I had trouble figuring out how to actually install gnome mobile on my Debian Surface g

I'm tired of Windows...
I fully understand your frustration, I once bought a Surface GO to give Windows on a tablet another try but only got a bad laptop and an even worse tablet. Even though Microsoft has rewritten large parts of Windows it still doesn't work as well on mobile devices compared to Android or IOS. One would

rant and the ipad mini
I agree with u/NegativePaint. Personally, I own 2 tablets, an iPad 11th gen and a Surface Go "laptop." While I use my tablets and iPad daily, my computer is the go to for anything that requires real work. So in your situation I wouldn't opt for that one device. My cousin is currently in school and h

Engineering laptops
The tech loan program is great for some students! It does not have laptops though and the tablets are not up to spec for engineering, as OP is asking about. Like, the Surface Go 3 is lightweight and ideal for taking notes, but with only two cores and max 8 GB RAM, it’s not going to be great for the

So no more Surface Go tablets...what now?
I'm going travel soon, and that was the initial reason I bought the Surface Go 1. I'm disappointed they aren't continuing the line. A small PC like the Go with a file system is so much better to me than a tablet, Samung or Apple. I was considering the 12" as a replacement, but it's still heavier. I

Are there tablets that still have a computer operating system?
microsoft also has the surface go line, which are very compact and just as much underpowered (i have the GO2). in the cost for a windows tablet, you should also factor in a keyboard and a pen. imo the OS is almost unsable on finger touch only. In the end i replaced my go2 with an android tablet and
