Microsoft forced to make Windows 10 extended security updates truly free in Europe

"Windows Backup requires a Microsoft Account and uses OneDrive, which could lead consumers to go above the 5GB of free storage by having to back up documents and settings. It’s a catch that benefits Microsoft, as it can then sell Windows 10 users additional OneDrive storage space." So that was the p...

Microsoft is truly evil.

Microsoft, in its haste to protect vapidly parasitic corporate greed, has kept Windows users from maintaining their curiosity in working order, This may very well be the case, but I would argue that iPhones have done more to dumb down the average user than Windows. At least Windows gives you a basic...

Professors gave me a nice keyboard. Cleaning people stole it.

I worked in an IT shop and we had a shipment of Microsoft Surfaces go missing. We finally got our department head to pull the security footage (which IMO shouldn't have been that hard to do in the first place but whatever) and it turns out it was one of the janitors on the night shift. Turns out tha...

College football keeps picking iPad over Surface as fourth conference joins team Apple (Mid-American Conference (MAC) announced that it will equip coaching staffs across all 13 member institutions with iPad Pro and iPad Air models)

I think organizations “choose” Surface because Microsoft’s paying for the product placement. They don’t care who’s funding it because it’s free stuff. When they have to choose with their own dollars, if they don’t have a Windows requirement (or if they have on-staff devs), then going with an iPad ma...

Microsoft has gotten too big to fail, and their support shows it.

This isn't a new thing. I worked as an escalation agent for a Microsoft team more than a decade ago, and everything below tier 3 was offshore and not great. Companies were just paying the added cost to skip directly to Tier 3 support without going through weeks of bad troubleshooting to get escalate...

Why do most developers recommend Node.js, Java, or Python for backend — but rarely .NET or ASP.NET Core?

Branding is something Microsoft have never got right. It's a cultural issue. The only product they hit from the get-go was the surface pro. If they'd rebranded dotnet around the time that it became modern, cross-platform, fast and robust, .NET would be way more widely used right now.

Destin regarding Costco: I was told that they will no longer be carrying Xbox consoles. “We don’t have any plans going forward to carry an Xbox console.” Saying. It was a business decision.

Same had Widows phone, zune, zune pass Xbox music groove, surface, Band, xbox is the last thing that I have from Microsoft thought it was going to go strong for a long time. Guess I was wrong.

Nearly half of Steam's users are still using Windows 10, with end of life fast approaching

Well I'll go with a very specific use case first.I have an old Gen 1 Surface Go (the smaller one).Win10 has a really good Tablet mode that works fantastic. In Win11 they stripped/changed that and made it worse. WHY? No clue. I don't like the taskbar. I don't like that it wants you to 'sign in' to set...

After 17 years on Unity, I decided to try out Godot for a 5 day game jam!

So after the whole runtime fee fiasco from last year, I've been wanting to give Godot a shot. However, I didn’t have the right idea until everything just sort of fell into place: I picked up a used Microsoft Surface Go 2 to bring with me to GenCon in a couple of months. I installed Fedora Linux on i...
